A Lovely Day to be Inter

By: Martha | June 26th, 2007

Yay! Inter!Though the facts will surely have changed multiple times by the time this post goes live, Massimo Moratti could be forgiven for singing the odd cheery ditty on his way to work this morning — as of mid-morning in Milan, life was looking awfully good for the Nerazzurri.

First of all, things on the Christian Chivu front are promising, though there’s still a ways to go in the negotiations (unless you ask Tribal Football, who say they’ll be sorted within a few hours). Talks between Chivu and Inter reportedly went really well, with the player more or less agreeing to a four year deal that would pay him about £3 million/year. Issues between the two clubs still require a bit of work, though La Gazzetta — if no one else — is very pleased by the apparent thawing of relations between Moratti and Roma Princess Rosella Sensi. According to the paper, the two are getting along not only with regard to footballing matters, but “also for extra-soccer transactions” (nudge, nudge). No matter how much platonic love the two share, however, if Barca come in today with that rumored €15 million (!) offer, Sensi will turn her back once and for all on Moratti and all of his toothy charms.

Second, in an interview with La Gazzetta today (no link, sorry — it’s only in the print edition), West Ham’s sought-after striker Carlos Tevez confessed that, despite seduction attempts by the glitz and glamor that are Real Madrid, Inter is in fact the club he most wants to join this summer. He’s already spoken with Javier Zanetti about moving to Italy, and his agent is reportedly in talks with Inter representatives as we speak. Plus, I mean, the man is Argentine, and Inter clearly have a leg up on pretty much everyone when it comes to landing the Argies. (That said, based on the example set by media whore Fabio Quagliarella over the past few weeks, Tevez could very well be telling newspapers all over the world exactly what their readers want to hear about his destination. We shall see.)

Chivu to Barca according to Romanian and Italian news reports. Prade is in Barcelona right now.

I know you can’t see this my I’m doing the Michael Flatley Riverdance jig right now in my Daniele De Rossi Italia jersey and a pair of short denim cutoff shorts. Enjoy that vision.

Thank the good lord, it’s over. Cristina Mazzeloni, Roma’s financial executive who handles official transactions, is headed to Spain.

    Chivu to Barcelona.

At least until Moratti phones Chivu to offer him 6m per annum.

It’s Mancini’s hair that gives him that weird power over … other men.

(Chris, got a link? I can’t find anything anywhere. Even my favorite rumor mongers — apart from you — ain’t got nothin.)

It’s also being mentioned on Romanian TV and Italian radio that it’s essentially done, from what I’ve heard.

    Mazzeloni is “The Closer”

I’d bet a significant amount of money he pens a Barca contract tomorrow. Somebody give Di Michele my phone number.

Thanks. I’m awfully wary of “sure things” after the Suazo debacle, though. Particularly since this morning he was practically wearing blue and black. God damn press.

The thing here is it involves a Spanish club. So it now has 50% more legitimacy.

Mancini reminds me more of JarJar Binks than anything else, albeit with better hair and a lovely golden tan…

You know: stumbling through chaos, seemingly mishandling everything, until finally they relegate the droid army and save the day?

ps, my Outlook’s spellcheck wants to correct “Juventino” with “subvention”.

I want to find that ironic, but I’m not sure how.

Chris — Mmmhmm. AS is WAY more reliable than La Gazzetta.

Mike — Imagine Mancini with Jar-Jar’s accent. I daresay there’a a sitcom in there somewhere.

I wasn’t referring to the media. Just that when something is “close” they mean it’s close to a deal. In Italy “close” means the two clubs probably haven’t even contacted each other.
