A Matrix-Heavy News Roundup
By: Martha | December 19th, 2006
•There’s a pretty great piece in The Guardian’s Sportsblog today about Materazzi, and how beloved he is by Italian fans despite his sometimes idiotic behavior. Well worth a read, if only because it features this sentence: “Benni McCarthy’s knee, Pippo Inzaghi’s head, Andriy Shevchenko’s testicles — they all felt the loving touch of Marco’s studs.”
•Whoever was investigating whether some part of Mark Zoro felts the loving touch of Marco’s head over the weekend has apparently decided the answer is “no,” or at least that they was no video evidence of such touching. As a result, he’s not been suspended and will carry on as normal against Lazio tomorrow — that is to say, he’ll be bugging the hell out of opponents, periodically terrifying his own fans, and scoring the odd stunning goal.
•In non-Matrix news, Pippo Inzaghi is officially delusional: He’s telling the press that Milan have no striking problems whatsoever, that he’s utterly unconcerned about the team’s dismal form, and will be using the break to recharge his “psychophysical energies.” The little men in white coats should be arriving shortly.
•David Di Michele is pouting about not starting Palermo’s game at Roma last weekend. Like every player who whines in the press when he’s left out of the side, no one told him why he didn’t play, it’s the coach’s decision, and he’s been terribly mistreated. Blah blah blah. I think I speak for the great majority of Palermo fans when I say “Shut the HELL up, David.”
•Finally, Juventus will play their first game since the horrible loss of Alessio Ferramosca and Riccardo Neri in shirts bearing the names of the two youth players. Good on them, as they say — Juve are handling this tragedy with a ton of class.

And Martha, why did you stick that Juve stuff in at the bottom. Now I’m feeling SO guilty about using this post to poke fun. Even at Materazzi.
