A Milan-Heavy News and Rumor Roundup
By: Martha | November 29th, 2006
•So, it seems you have to pay to read Corriere dello Sport online. What the hell is that? And how do they have the balls to publish a headline that says “Milan: Sheva-Gerrard” and just leave it at that?! And the subheader totally doesn’t help, since it seems to say two totally different things, one about Sheva breaking with Chelsea and returning to … somewhere (What does “vicino” mean? I can’t find it anywhere.) and the other about a trade for Gerrard. How is Milan involved with Gerrard? Are they? And what does Sheva have to do with all this? Help!
•In other Sheva news, since Milan can’t actually buy him outright (pesky rules), the latest is that they may bring him back to Italy on loan come January. Please please please.
•Speaking of Milan, Iaquinta would never, ever leave Udinese for such a crappy club. He doesn’t care that they’re losing (something he’d be likely to encounter quite often even if he were to make the move), and his contract — until 2010, mind you — will certainly not be be violated. Got that? So, expect to see him in red and black in a few months’ time.
•Genoa striker Giuseppe Sculli has been banned for eight months for his part in fixing a 2002 match between Messina (with whom he was playing at the time) and Crotone. Of course, since this is Italy, land of the magical appeals, the ban will soon be reduced to three or four months. Sadly for Genoa — who are very much in the race for promotion — that could still be too long: Sculli is their second-leading scorer and has been a major factor in their success so far this season.
•And, finally, more Cannavaro news: He’s officially on the shortlist for the FIFA World Player of the Year, alongside Ronaldinho and Zidane, who has already won the damn thing three times — more than enough, I daresay, for one Frenchman. Take that, Thierry Henry!

“vicino” means “near” as in “close to”

Thanks, Guinne! So I guess the headline say that … he’ll be nearby, soon, or something?

I believe it means his return is near.

You’re just trying to see if I’m paying attention by putting a Zidane photo in here, aren’t you?
(Well, I am.)
