Sheva Loves Chelsea And Would Totally Leave. Wait, What?
By: Martha | December 7th, 2006
Sigh. Just when we thought we’d examined every nook and cranny of the Shevchenko saga, another wrinkle pops up: We’re finally hearing from Sheva himself, which is nice. Speaking yesterday with London’s The Mirror (WHY is this the go-to paper for footballers? Do they not know it’s a piece of crap?), the Ukrainian flop revealed the shocking news that he’s … quite settled at Chelsea, thanks. And he likes he teammates, so shut up about Abromovich forcing them to go to his parties. The problem, however, is that his game and Mourinho’s tactics don’t mesh very well. He’s willing to go out on loan, if only to remind the world just how much ass he can kick.
Honestly, Sheva sounds remarkably perceptive and mature in the interview — there’s no ranting or whining; no defensiveness or bragging. Instead, he simply lays the situation out as he sees it, without taking offense or badmouthing anyone, and he’s pretty much right all around. He’s not scoring in London, and understands if the club wants to send him elsewhere. He assumes Milan and Chelsea probably haven’t talked or made any decisions yet. And, well, that’s pretty much it. It’s a business, he’s an adult, and he’ll adjust to whatever happens.
Wait — maturity from a player in the spotlight? That’s a new idea. I’d like the propose that this interview be sent to every footballer on earth as a lesson in how to behave in the press. Anyone have Nedved’s email address?

But if everybody was mature, what the heck would we have to blog about? Go, Nedved!
