Adriano Goes Walkies
By: Martha | December 19th, 2006
As if Adriano didn’t have enough problems, he turned up missing (best expression ever?) for training yesterday, and reportedly hasn’t been seen since. Since I’m sure no one could ever question his commitment to the club or his ability to work the complex electronics of an alarm clock, there must be foul play afoot. Maybe Lazio are so frightened of his striking prowess they arranged to have him drugged, kidnapped, and hidden away until after their match on Wednesday! Oh, wait. I’m talking about Adriano — never mind.
Word on the street is actually that he was seen out late Sunday night, partying it up in Milan, and that perhaps that had something to do with his absence from training. Either that or “his alarm didn’t go off.” (See reason one for an explanation of that excuse.) It’s being suggest that not only will Adriano now not figure in Inter’s next match, but also that this error (combined with the associated lack of committment conveyed by the alleged partying) will lead to a ramped-up shopping of the player during the January transfer window. The latest rumored target? It’s all about Messi, baby.
Edit: At today’s training session, Mancini downplayed Adriano’s absence, suggesting (as far as my translation skills go, which is not very far) that it had been discussed with him beforehand, and was therefore totally cool. When asked about the player’s status for the Lazio match, however, Mancini was coy, saying something that translates to “Well, he’s here now, so …” Basically, he probably won’t play but it’s because he’s useless, not a slacker. Or perhaps because he’s both.

What a waste of talent he is turning into. Sad to see a player throw his career away. Maybe a change of scenery could do him some good.
