Adriano: “I Am Not Fat And I Am Calm, Serene.”

By: Martha | June 25th, 2007

Adriano and his homiesD’ya hear that, world? He is NOT FAT. Not only that, but he’s already met once with an Inter trainer (who told him he was doing great) and is having a great time on vacation in Sardinia where, he informs us, “I eat much [salad], but above all I eat little.” So there, oh ye sayers of nay!

Ahem. When not patiently answering questions about his girth and eating habits, Adriano today informed La Gazzetta dello Sport that he wants to stay at Inter and fight for his place, no matter how many strikers the club brings in (Regarding Suazo: “In reality it does not interest to me.”), or how many rumors there are about him leaving. Shocking, I know. As if he’d say anything else at this point — if they’re selling him, this is a perfect opportunity to say mature things and make himself look good, since he won’t have to live up to any of his statements. And, if they’re keeping him he really has no choice but to stay and fight. What’s he going to do? Retire? What would he do for beer money without a job?

According to the Brazilian, there actually is one condition under which he’d leave: A sale to another Italian club. I’m not sure I understand why it’d be up to him (He could refuse to agree personal terms, I guess, but the amount of money on the table is likely to be considerable despite his unpredictability.), but it make sense he’d want to stay in Italy — it’s a game to which he’s adjusted and, more importantly, with another Italian club he could make Inter pay for their foolishness at least twice next season. Mwwaahahhaaaaa!

I am so curious to see what happens with Adriano next season. His talent is obvious, and he is a young guy, and I think that he could be in line for a big season next year.

However, I’m not sure that I’d want to be the club rolling the dice on that option. Here comes the series of “ifs”, if Inter are frustrated and want to get rid of him, and if you have a manager that knows how to motivate him, and if you can get him for a reasonable price, it could be a masterstroke. He could get you 20 or more goals next year, but he could also be an uninterested, overweight, drunken slob. Only time will tell.

he likes Italian food too much. he knows if he’s transferred to another country he won’t eat as well. So to satisfy his stomach he has to stay in Italy.

Italian food and nightclubs. Why would he ever want to leave?

tmc: Given the addition of Suazo and Mancini’s obvious disgust with Adriano, I’d be surprised if Inter are going to be that club. That said, I could see them hanging onto him if they didn’t get a good offer, just to make sure he doesn’t go and blow up for someone else. That would hurt.

Mike: Can you imagine how much the rest of the team must hate that egomaniacal little prick? Creating drama for the sake of attention in the papers is so last year.

Francesco: A reasonable thought. The mere suggestion of a transfer to England must fill him with horror.

Nah, I don’t think Trezzi’s hated. I mean, Mauro and Zebina were bigger babies IMO and they didn’t get the “soap’n’socks” treatment (think Kubrick), and were even defended by Pavel and Alex a few times…

Serie B was a tough time for all of them, and they can be excused to display a little emotion. But now the beautiful lady has returned, I’m sure Juve will be back to their gentleman ways of keeping problems internal, showing class in public, and just being the all-around-opposite-of-Inter that everyone respects and loves/hates ;)

btw, “I Am Not Fat And I Am Calm, Serene” happens to be my daily Mantra.

I guess that’s two things Adriano and I have in common.

Martha, Adriano will reject any move to England because he doesn’t want to eat fish and chips all the time. He would probably get in trouble with his English club for flying back to Italy and being caught on camera in Italian restaurants. Also, Adriano will finally be the answer to the traditional English fan’s question “Who Ate all the Pies?”.

Mike, you really think everyone at Juve will suddenly learn to shut up now that they’re back in Serie A? Please. Especially if Nedved isn’t retiring — that team is full of egos with giant mouths.

And Francesco, nice one with the Who At All the Pies. Suddenly, I find myself wanting him to go to England, if only to be serenaded with that every single week.

I always thought Juve kept everything “in house”, but I do admit that (a) I’m completely biased and (b) I know I’m right.

ps: is there a REASON why the people of England would serenade you with “Who Ate All the Pies?” every single week? ;)

Mike, you clearly carefully avoided the Italian papers this season — Camo and Nedved both whined copiously, supported by periodic moans from Trezeguet and poor, mistreated Zebina. Poor, poor highly paid footballers.
