A Stadium Rundown, Or: Which Grounds Will Echo on Sunday?

PalermoWhen (If?) football returns this weekend, there are only a few stadia which will be allowed to admit every ticket-holder. The rest will either be empty, or will admit only home fans, depending on their level of compliance with the new (and old) guidelines. Assuming the reports that week 23 matches will be played this weekend, as planned (with the postponed slate moving to Wednesday, February 14), here’s how things will look:

Cagliari-Siena: The Cagliari ground is nearly up to code, so at the very least, home fans will be allowed in.

Atalanta-Lazio: No turnstiles and no CCTV means no fans. Sorry, Atalanta.

Chievo-Inter: This one might be empty — the Chievo ground is way behind, lacking both turnstiles and a reliable ticketing system.

Fiorentina-Udine: Renovations are underway in Florence, but there are no CCTV cameras, among other things. This look like another home-only one, if that.

Messina-Catania: Turnstiles are in place and CCTV cameras are installed, which is good. They’re not all connected to anything, however, which renders some of them about as useful as blocks of wood. My guess? Home-only.

Milan-Livorno: Shockingly, the San Siro is NOT one of the four stadia which are up to code. It lacks required flow-controlling elements like turnstiles and a “pre-filtering area,” in which fans can be frisked or otherwise examined. As a result, it’s unlikely Livorno fans will be allowed in.

Palermo-Empoli: Finally, a ground that’s up to code — everyone gets in! Go on with your bad, rule-respecting selves, Palermo.

Roma-Parma: The Olimpico, too, is up to snuff, so Parma fans will be welcome.

Sampdoria-Ascoli: Of the grounds that are not yet up to code, Samp’s is closest to complying: It meets most of the requirements, but lacks a dedicated police station. If the rules are enforced to the letter, it looks like Ascoli fans won’t be getting in.

Torino-Reggina: It’s all good here, as the Olimpico in Turin is up to code.
