And Now Fiorentina Are Upset. Not Crazy, Though. There is That.
By: Martha | March 13th, 2007
Now that the Palermo authorities have had their say, it’s time for Fiorentina to step into the fray and do a little shouting about who, exactly, was in the wrong when heartless, cunning gypsy Adrian Mutu ignored/didn’t see a prone Roberto Guana, went to goal, and put his team ahead on Sunday. To that end, the Viola have officially requested an apology for Palermo coach Francesco Guidolin’s pitch-side meltdown, a scene that featured lots of yelling, physical aggression toward Fiorentina gaffer Cesare Prandelli, and eventually a sending off.
Of course, Fiorentina aren’t worried about themselves here. Oh no — it’s about the children: They’re accusing Guidolin of setting a bad example for young supporters, who presumably came away with the impression that losing your shit makes you look stupid and get you sent off. Can’t have than, can we? Guidolin, needless to say, isn’t even a little sorry. Not really, anyway — he says he wouldn’t have gotten involved with Prandelli, if he had to do it over again, but he would nevertheless “repeat every single word [he] said,” and hasn’t taken anything back about the Viola’s alleged lack of sportsmanship and general evilness.
For their part, the football league is unimpressed by Guidolin’s insistence that he was in the right, and have suspended him for three games and fined him €15,000. This, of course, will only feed into the martyr complex that is taking over at Palermo — can’t wait to see what Zamparini has to say about his one.
And, finally, Rose at the Palermo blog has the rundown on Zamparini’s “apology” for yesterday’s racist attack on Mutu (which FIGC just announced they will be investigating). With regard to how convincing it is, I’ll only say that the phrase “I love gypsies!” is involved. Yeah, it’s pathetic. (And, speaking of Mutu, how impressive is it that he’s kept his mouth shut the whole time? Good for him. Could this be a sign of maturity from the lad?)

If this is what happens when I Distract you With Figo, there’ll be no more of that, young lady!

Hee. I think it was a combination of your picspam and that blessed Pazza Inter video. (Neither of which I will ever give up, obviously.)

I still think duct tape is the way to go. Preferably before Zamparini can comment on Guidolin’s punishment.
