And the Bidone D’Oro (Golden Trash Can Award) goes to…

By: Francesco | December 8th, 2008

In Italy, famous players that flop at top clubs, big money transfers that wind up not fulfilling their potential, or players that just plain flat-out stink are given the title “bidone“, which means “trash can” (or “rubbish can” for the UK). So every year, Radio Rai Due gives out the “Bidone D’Oro“, or “Golden Trash Can” Award to the biggest “bidone” of the season. The fans vote on the website and through SMS and in the end the votes are tallied and the award is given out. As the picture shows, this year the award went to Inter’s Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma. Quaresma was the signing that Mourinho urged Massimo Moratti to make, and 20 million euro later, he has proven to be a flop. The Portuguese winger has had trouble showing the talent and skill he showed at Porto and hasn’t put in good performances at all. In fact he has just been ridiculed for his tendency to always hit the ball with the outside of his boot (his trademarktrivela“) and it seems like he doesn’t know how to hit it any other way. Even for a simple 2 yard pass he’ll execute the trivela. In recent weeks Mourinho hasn’t even played him as much, and unless he improves he will be considered one of the worst signings of the summer transfer window. Full results of the Bidone D’Oro award after the jump.

Andrea Raggi deserves top 3 status. 7 million for a RB who is slow, can’t defend and sure as hell can’t attack. Shit, he makes Mattia Cassani looks like Dani Alves.

Dude, exactly…how in the world is Raggi not on this list? Adriano at least has scored some goals. Raggi has been pure merda for the 2 appearances he was allowed to make.

Raggi is actually quite quick, he just can’t make up his mind where he wants to run too and gets confused so he looks slow, adn he should be on that list for sure.

Seems a bit early in his Serie A career to be writing him off completely.

Another guy who should definitely be on this list is Fiorentina’s Vargas. That guy has been utter garbage this whole year. And to think, he had tons of teams after him.

Oh man. The poor kid. This is not going to help him at all.

I think there is still hope for him.

    Yeah, Lorenzo’s right.

Raggi’s probably not on the list because Palermo didn’t fork out a huge fee for him.

There’s a video on Uefa.com about RQ77 showing off the trivela, and he says “I love the trivela. I always will try and kick with the outside of my boot whenever possible.” Doesn’t bode well.

How does Ronaldo make this list? He wasn’t even signed in 2008, and he did score 9 in 20 games, which while not amazing, isn’t garbage. What gives?

i know they didn’t pay too much for him but can anyone say John Arne Riise… that guy is shambolic as some would say!… At least he can’t take consolation in know if the goal was on top of row XX he would hit it

Adriano’s having a pretty decent year this year. Not back to his best but he’s playing very creatively and unpredictably, which is a bad thing for defenses.

Can’t believe how much of a stinker Quaresma’s turned out to be though
