Another Twist on the Ronaldinho Rumor, Now with More Zambrotta!
By: Martha | March 21st, 2007
Obviously the Ronaldinho-to-Milan rumor isn’t going away any time soon — at this point we probably should start treating it less like a news story and more like a giant, immovable piece of furniture. At the moment, things seem pretty standard there: Milan claiming they are the place Ronaldinho will end up if Barca let him leave, but always insisting that they’re sure Braca will want to hold on to him (*wink* *wink*) — even as they not-so-secretly meet with his agent, and ask all their Brazilian players to issue public calls for his arrival.
There is a new wrinkle, though, and it involves an Italian, specifically one Gianluca Zambrotta who, despite his goal last weekend, has been struggling at Barca since he fled Juve and relegation last summer, and either wants to come home or doesn’t, depending on which part of his recent interviews you read. On one hand, he’s happy in Spain and wants to see his contract out there (he’s signed through 2010); on the other, he wants to end his career in Italy, and would love to do so with Milan. While these two things are obviously not mutually exclusive, the Italian press are clinging to the latter statement as a sign that he wants to come home, and are suggesting that Milan could offer Barca a bid so massive for the package of Zabrotta and Ronaldinho that they will be unable to resist selling.
So, that’s how things look in Italy. In Spain, meanwhile, Barcelona’s sports director is telling the press he has “absolute confidence [his stars] will be staying” with the club. Furthermore, he’s not received offers for any of the team’s top players, including Eto’o, Messi and Ronaldinho (though of course there’s a difference between a formal offer and discussions over dinner). So there you go — he’s either going to Milan or he isn’t. Glad we had this little talk.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Martha. Do Milan really want the already chubbifying Ronaldinho around all the carb-laden food that Italy has to offer?
