As if Things Weren’t Hard Enough for Palermo Already

By: Martha | December 27th, 2006

AmauriAccording to La Gazetta dello Sport, Palermo’s monumentally in-form striker Amauri damaged knee ligaments in his clash over the weekend with Siena keeper Alex Manninger, and will be out for up to four months. (First Figo, now this. Clearly I’ve offended someone with a lot of power.) Well, shit. Can you say that on the internet? SHIT. Any success Palermo find this season was always going to be dependent on the health of its first team, because the club is clearly not deep enough to handle any sort of injury to, well, anyone. So this? Is a HUGE problem.

From what I can tell (thanks, Google), he’s got a torn ACL and a sprained MCL, both which are seriously bad news. Right now he’s just resting, apparently, and will be reevaluated before even thinking about training again. (Palermo are off until next Tuesday, so by sitting around with his knee in a brace Amauri is losing fitness but not missing anything on the pitch.) Luckily, the injury happened right before the three week break, so hopefully he’ll undergo some sort of uber-healing treatment and will be back and fit by the end of January. Fingers crossed.
