Ascoli Are SO Hating Life Right Now
By: Martha | December 12th, 2006
Until today, the only thing that was keeping poor, poor Ascoli off the bottom of the table was the fact that Reggina started the season on -14 points and had “only” earned 19 in the first 15 weeks of the season, leaving them one point behind the hapless Ascoli (have I mentioned they still haven’t won?). But now? Ascoli have been totally screwed by The Man, who saw fit this morning to reduce Reggina’s point deduction from 14 points to 11 — so, just like that, Ascoli are bottom! As if they weren’t demoralized enough already, they show up for training to find out they’ve actually manged to get worse while they were sleeping.
Reggina, needless to say, are worried not a whit about Ascoli’s feelings, and are instead continuing to insist that they did nothing wrong and shouldn’t have had ANY points deducted. Just so we know. Other teams involved in this latest series of appeals (If you haven’t noticed, virtually all punishments in Italy gradually lose their teeth through endless rounds of appeals) were Serie B Arezzo, whose six-point deduction to start the season was left in place, and Lazio, whose president Claudio Lotito saw his 30 month suspension reduced to four months. Which means he’s back at work today — gotta love that appeals system.
