Azzurrini Win One For the Good Guys, Or: Suck It, France!
By: Martha | August 21st, 2007
In a game that featured the usual, staggeringly high number of changes wrought by all international coaches when they hear the word “friendly,” the Azzurrini turned in an extremely impressive first half and hung on throughout a sloppy second (huh huh) for a 2-1 friendly win over France.*
Giuseppe Rossi continued his fantastic form and, along with little Sebastian Giovinco (on only his second Azzurrini appearance), reportedly bossed the first half from their central positions. The first goal was set up on a silver platter for Daniele Dessena through great work by Giovinco, and the second, just a few minutes later, was driven home by Rossi from a corner.
In the second half, Gigi Casiraghi replaced nine of his players at the 46 minute mark, and every position has been turned over by the time an hour was gone. As a result, things reportedly got quite hairy and ugly, and it became more a question of survival than anything else. The France goal was scored on a defense mix-up, but the Italians hung on the secure the victory.
There was, however, carnage in the defensive ranks which significantly detracted from the victory. In addition to losing Domenico Criscito to an injury in training this morning, the team also lost Marco Andreolli and Fabiano Santacroce during the match to unspecified injuries. There’s no indication of how long any of the three will be out, but this is exactly what coaches dread when players are called up, particularly for friendlies. Hopefully none of them will be out long-term, particularly Santacroce, who is important to Brescia’s backline.
*For those of you who get RAI International in the US and C anada, the match will be on tonight at 10:15pm EST.

Just what Roma needs, to lose more defensive depth
Good shit
(Nice job by Rossi. Where’s Aquilani? Oh yeah, big boys)

Well without Younès Kaboul, Yohan Cabaye et Mathieu Coutadeur,Hatem Ben Arfa, Didier Digard et Yassin Moutaouakil, i presume it is logical.

“Having mainly used a 4-1-4-1 with the last Under-21 generation, the former striker fielded a potentially more exciting 4-3-2-1″
What a bunch of bull, rattling off numbers as proof that this or that is more defensive. If I line up a 1-4 midfield with Palladino-Aquilani-Montolivo-Rosina while leaving poor Nocerino to work all over the pitch as the only defensive mid (but he does it so well) and you tell me I’m lining up a defensive formation, you’re a frakking idiot.

Martha shame on you for mispelling Giuseppe Rossi.
Takes me back to the Championship Manager 97-98 season, where where I could buy players like Guiseppe Signori, Guiseppe Favalli, and so on. Sigh, good times.

Oh bloody hell, Marco, I thought I’d finally gotten to where I was getting that right, too. Thanks, fixing it now.

Ha! Jesus. The first one was a misspelling, the second was a typo. If there’s a third, it’s clearly a(nother) sign I’m just really dumb.
