Becks to Inter, Or: Beckham’s Press Agent Tries Desperately to Make His Client Relevant
By: Martha | January 1st, 2007
So, let me get this straight: David Beckham, a player who can hardly get on the pitch for Real, is going to step into Figo’s shoes for the best team in Italy? Sure he is. Right after he regains the England captaincy and wins the Democratic nomination for president. I don’t know about you, but I smell a rat — the guy goes from being a press-grabbing, attendance-boosting MLS target to the answer for Inter in a few weeks, all without doing anything useful on the pitch? Please. If Inter actually want to replace Figo, they need someone who does more than work his ass off (No matter what you think of Beckham, he never stops working, even if it’s only to run around in circles.); they need a difference-maker, which Beckham hasn’t been for years.
According to the most specific press reports, Inter are at least considering offering Becks a two or three year contract, and would pay €6-7 million in transfer fees. Both of these things are so contrary to any form of logic that the only conclusion one can draw from them in that someone in the Beckham camp is making up numbers and leaking them to the press in a desperate effort to drum up productive talks with a team not in MLS. Either that, or Massimo Moratti has finally lost his mind. Because, you know, that whole Signing Big Names Regardless of Age, Ability or Weight has Real rolling in trophies recently! Oh, wait.

I don’t know what is going on during this transfer period. I could have sworn that I heard it was confirmed that Becks signed with the L.A. Galaxy. It was not officially going to be announced until the Transfer window was open. Damn, I can’t remember where I heard it. It was on a TV program or radio show because I definetely heard it and did not read it.
I was so sure of this I even tried to purchase tickets that I knew wewre not sale yet for when the Galaxy come to play our newly founded Toronto F.C. beacuse I didn’t want to have to deal with trying to get them later.
