Berlusconi Does it Again, Or: Rejoice, the San Siro is Open!
By: Martha | February 10th, 2007
After working around the clock, Silvio Berlusconi’s crack team of indentured servants well-paid employees managed to get 28 turnstiles in place* at the San Siro, a number that somehow reassured the government enough to open the place to a limited number of fans. Whether any other ground so unqualified could have gotten what is essentially a pass to admit 37,297 season ticket holders is highly unlikely, but Berlusconi’s powers are are numerous as they are mysterious (though his massive control of the media, strong connections to the government, and mint of cash give one a good start on guessing the source of his influence), and we should never be surprised when Milan get a gift.
The good news is that there will be almost 40,000 Milan supporters there to cheer when Ronaldo comes on to make his debut. One hopes they’ll at least make enough noise to drown out the sounds of Pippo Inzaghi sobbing from the stand.
*For those of you planning a quick trip to Milan, the newly turnstiled gates — and the only way into the stadium — are numbers 3, 4, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 25, 26, 37, 38, 41 and 42. Just so you know.
