Berlusconi Wants A Brazilian Fiesta in Milan! (Or at Least the Rumor Mill Hopes He Does.)

By: Martha | February 8th, 2007

Hungry RonaldinhoFrom the moment Ronaldo brought his tubby little gut to Milan, some in the press (and, it seems, in the Milan front office) have been acting under the assumption that every other Brazilian player on earth would follow him to the San Siro — a footballing version of “If you build it, he will come,” if you will. Silvio Berlusconi has apparently been cuddling with Ronaldo since he showed up, whispering sweet nothings about his little friend Ronaldinho and asking what it would take to pry the lad from Barcelona’s evil clutches.

According to the Italian press (Milanese papers, of course), though, Berlusconi has plans that go well-beyond sweet-talk. Ronaldinho, it seems, is unsettled at Barca, and Milan plan to not only offer him a HUGE salary (£7 million/year), but also forgo almost all of his image rights — much like they did to woo Ronaldo — which would put piles more money in the player’s pockets. Additionally, his agent allegedly plans to demand a mere €6 million/year from Barca in order to re-sign, an amount he doesn’t believe the club is willing to pay. So he’d be thrown out of Barca’s offices, which would leave Ronaldinho free to swim in Milan’s giant money pool officially negotiate with Milan.

I realize this is all probably a lot of wishful thinking, but the Ronaldinho-to-Milan rumor has been around for months, and was percolating even before Ronaldo appeared in Italy. And it’s a hell of a lot of fun to think about Kaka and Ronaldinho playing together in red and black.

I’m confused how many slots are available for Non-Eu players at Milan? because I thought it was already filled when Oliveira came to Milan because of Sheva being sold to Chelsea. and now Ronaldo is there and Oliveira is still there. so how many are still available or are they planning on getting rid of someone?

I recall hearing the same thing, so if I understood correctly I think with Ronaldo coming, Oliveira is not being included in the team… I guess

Well, the dream Ronaldiho move wouldn’t come until the summer, so he wouldn’t be added to this season’s total.

Now that you mention it, though, I’m confused about Ronaldo, too, since the non-EU thing was a potential issue with Sheva’s return. I wonder if he has citizenship somewhere in Europe also, or something? Either that, or maybe the “year” is actually a calendar year and not the season — in that case, Ronaldo would be the first non-EU transfer of 2007. Maybe?

Milan has one slot and it’s already taken by Oliveira.
Ronaldo has spanish as his second nationality that is. I think may be he gained it by staying 5 years in Spain.
And about Shevchenko, Ukraine is participating in EURO Championship, so I think he’s EU player.
The ‘year’ is actually the season.

Thanks for the info about Ronaldo, dahri, and for the definition of a “year” for the non-EU player rule.

Last time I checked, Ukraine was not in the EU — I bet the European Championship was going on before the EU was even created. That’s a continental term, not an economic one.
