Breaking News: Adriano retires
By: Francesco | April 9th, 2009
So one of the major stories after the international break was that Adriano never returned to Italy. Inter were expecting him to be in Milan the Tuesday after the international break, and he never showed up. Early reports were he had simply missed his flight after a party, but as the days passed and he still failed to show up reports were something was wrong. Some reports even said he was kidnapped or even dead, but in the end he was found safe and sound with his family. Then more reports came out, saying he would return to Italy in a week or two and his agent would go discuss everything with Inter or quite simply that he might consider retiring altogether. Well, it looks like he chose the latter. It was reported today that Adriano held a press conference and told journalists “For now I’m quitting, I no longer find any joy in playing. I lost the want to train, for now I no longer want to play.” Then he added “I don’t want to return to Italy, I want to live in peace here in Brazil. I’m not sick, I only want to live here in Brazil tranquilly with my family. “ Finally he added one more thing about Inter president Massimo Moratti, “I consider him a father but the pressure in Italy is just too much. I am even willing to rescind my contract with the club.” It’s still early and he may change his mind, but it looks like Adriano really couldn’t take it anymore. It’s sad to see, as he really could have been one of the greatest strikers in the world right now. He showed so much potential at Fiorentina and Parma, but he just couldn’t live up to it with all the pressure surrounding him. I guess one person who could be happy about this news is Juventus striker Amauri, who now can take his spot on the Brazilian national team. Adriano video after the jump.
