Breaking News: The FIGC changes non-EU regulation

By: Francesco | July 2nd, 2010

Today the FIGC had their executive meeting today, and of course the main topic was the improvement of Italian football. The FIGC proposed that the non-EU Regulations in Italy be changed. Currently, every club is allowed to sign 2 non-EU players. The FIGC proposed to reduce that to only one. Even though Lega Calcio Serie A voted against this ruling, the FIGC passed the law anyway, and now it is official, Serie A clubs can only sign one non-EU player a season. The FIGC thinks that this will allow the clubs to invest more in their youth systems rather then going out and trying to find foreign talent. Also, Giancarlo Abete has been confirmed as FIGC president despite reports that FIGC directors would ask for his resignation. Will this new ruling help? I honestly don’t think so. So it stops Italian clubs from buying another player without a European passport. That doesn’t mean they won’t stop signing foreigners with European passports. And many club presidents won’t like it, Zamparini already had his say.
