BREAKING: UEFA Lays Down the Post-Brawl Law
By: Martha | March 14th, 2007
UEFA’s disciplinary committee just finished their meeting on the Inter-Valencia brawl, and the following punishments were handed down:
•David Navarro: Seven months
•Nicolas Burdisso: Six matches
•Maicon: Six matches
•Carlos Marchena: Four matches
•Ivan Cordoba: Three matches
•Julio Cruz: Two matches
In addition, both clubs have been fined €155,772 or, if you prefer, CHF250,000. What a CHF is, I have no freaking idea.
Remember, these bans apply only to UEFA events, so while — barring appeal — Valencia will be without Marchena (a starter) and Navarro (a guy who sits at the end of the bench) for their upcoming Champions League matches, Inter will suffer no immediate effect. And, in other good news for Inter fans, UEFA have approached FIFA about extending only Navarro’s ban to the matches over which they hold sway (league and national team fixtures), rather than the whole mass of the brawlers, which is different from the approach that was originally rumored.
So, basically, Inter are good to go (albeit with a slightly smaller bank account) for the rest of the season.

Inter can breathe a sigh of relief. That’s far less harsh than UEFA was originally making noise about.
I think CHF would be Swiss Francs…CH is the abbreviation for Switzerland. I’m wondering why UEFA works in Swiss Francs-I would think the majority of UEFA members use the Euro?

Swiss Bank Accounts are untraceable. They are probably as corrupt as Juventus…. woops! Just kidding……
Anyhow, I am just pissed that they got all these games yet Navarro’s face is still in tact. And in the name of “Fair Play” Inter & Valencia plyers were forced to be friends in that charity match at Old Trafford.

Lisa, thanks, I’m sure you’re right. It’s really odd for that to be the preferred currency, since the two clubs in question are in Euro-based countries.

I saw a picture of that this morning, Paolo — hilarious. Just like UEFA to assume that makes everything ok.

Swiss bank accounts > Luxembourg bank accounts > all the other banks in the world
Inter Milan > Serie A > Valencia > David Navarro
@Poalo: Toldo gave Navarro a taste of his own medicine, punched him a broken nose when he chased him down into the Valencia locker room while everyone else besides 2 other Inter players -also having fun w/ Navarro- were still out on the pitch

Got a source on that Cosntantizzle? The way Toldo tells it, he got into the Valenzia locker room, ran into a huge traffic jam, and realized he wasn’t even sure what Navarro looked like, so there was sadly no punishing. Where’d you hear the juice details?

[...] comically disastrous for the Champions League which, impossibly, starts up again next week. See, thanks to last year’s brawl with Valencia, Julio Cruz (two matches), Ivan Cordoba (two matches), Maicon (three matches) and [...]
