Cagliari Dump Coach, Pretend that Will Help
By: Martha | December 18th, 2006
After his team had their asses handed to them by an Udinese squad playing with 10 men for the entire second half, Cagliari coach Marco Giampaolo was understandably shown the door. The sacking wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction to total humiliation, though: The team has 16 points from 16 games and, though they’re 13th in the table (five points clear of the drop zone), have only won twice while scoring just 14 goals.
According to press reports, Franco Colomba will arrive at the club today, wiggle his nose Samantha-style, and POOF! make everything better. Colomba was last in Serie A in 2004 when he started the season with Livorno but was eventually dumped and replaced by a guy you may have heard of called Roberto Donadoni. Columba’s been out of management since the end of last season when, after being brought in in October, he wasn’t able to rescue Avellino from falling to Serie C. (Yes, it’s only the best for Calgiari.)
