Calcio Quiz!
By: Francesco | July 8th, 2009
With most news being transfer rumors now and calcio being in a lull period, I thought this would be an interesting thing to do. I call it Calcio Quiz! (name stolen from an iPhone application. My apologies if the creator is reading this), and I’ll test your knowledge of the calcio world with random questions that I made up. Now I know that we live in a world of technology where all these answers can be researched on the internet, but I encourage you to answer the questions just using your good old-fashioned brain to make it more challenging and to see which one of you readers really knows his calcio knowledge. Post your answers in the comments section (no stealing people’s answers either!) and I’ll make the deadline 1 week. So next Wednesday, July 15, I’ll reveal the answers and we’ll see who knows their stuff. Questions after the jump.

4) Name a set of brothers currently playing in Italian football. The Filippini twins.
6) True or False – A Mexican player has played in Serie A. Can’t think of one, and it’s a big country so I guess false. That’s incredible if so.

18) Besides Milan, name another club that has red and black striped kits. US Foggia, where my grandparents are from originally actually.
21) True or false – San Marino has 3 club teams that play in the Italian league system. False. Can’t have more than 1-2 teams in the Eccellenza and Serie D, I’d think.
22) What did famed Roman club Lodigiani change their name to? It isn’t Roma or Lazio, so I’d guess the only other Roman team I’ve heard of, Cisco Roma

43) Which player scored 188 goals in Serie A and was known for his unique stand-still penalty stance? Beppe Signori.

alessio: 23) Inter is represented by a snake. Juventus by a zebra. What animal represents Napoli? A Donkey. Does anyone know why, I’ve always been curious.
–The story as I have heard it goes like this. Napoli is a greek city, originally, hence the whole Partenopei thing. As a coastal city that relies on the sea, it has as it’s symbol a horse – the animal of Poseidon, like Milan has the Snake, Rome has the Wolf and Turin has the Bull.
Anyways, fast forward 2000 years and the football team lost one of it’s early games quite badly, like 10-0. So, as a sarcastic put down, people called them donkeys instead of horses – you know, like they’re not good enough to be horses.
As often happens in Italy, they adopted the joke to turn the tables on their detractors.
That’s the way that I heard it.

MAD, that is the correct story. But the only difference I read somewhere was that it was because they finished their first season in last place, not just one bad result.
