Casiraghi signs contract extension and remains U-21 manager until 2011
By: Francesco | June 30th, 2009
After Italy’s elimination from the U-21 Championship last Friday, Gigi Casiraghi was unsure about his future. He said that he would let the night pass and consider his options. The media were expecting that Casiraghi would decide to leave after 3 years at the helm and go on to newer pastures. Names were already being thrown around as to who would be his successor (Antonio Conte, Angelo Di Livio, Angelo Peruzzi, and Antonio Rocca were all mentioned). However, today the FIGC announced that Casiraghi has signed a 2 year extension and will be in charge of the U-21 squad until 2011 when the new cycle will be finished. The new U-21 side starts qualification in September but there will probably be a friendly in August where we will get an idea as to who will be part of the new U-21 side.
