Cassano to Juve this summer?
By: Francesco | September 11th, 2008
Big rumor from TuttoSport today (which is a Turin-based paper) claiming that Juventus have struck a deal with Sampdoria to bring Antonio Cassano to Torino this summer. Cassano has always been linked with a move to Juve (Bari had given Cassano two options, Juve or Roma, and Cassano chose Roma because it was a better city) and then the Bianconeri have always shown a certain interest in El Pibe di Bari the past few years. Last year there were rumors that Juve see Cassano as the rightful heir to Del Piero’s throne. According to TuttoSport, Juventus would pay Sampdoria 18 million euro, which is the price of Cassano’s rescission clause, and then give Sampdoria the one year loan of U21 star Sebastian Giovinco. Right now this is just a big rumor, but could it wind up being true? A move to Juventus would mean many things for Cassano: It would give him one more chance with a big club and give him a chance to finally prove his worth on the big stage, he would get to play in the Champions League, and maybe being a Juve player would help in convincing Marcello Lippi to give him another shot in Azzurro. But like I said, this is a just a rumor, but you never know, crazier things have happened in the calcio world.

It is worth pointing out that Tuttosport is so biased in favour of Juve that it makes FoxNews look indeed “fair and balanced”, and that one of its long-time specialties is fabricating transfer stories benefitting La Vecchia Signora.
Not to say that there is absolutely nothing to this particular story, but it would be considered a lot more credible here in Italy were it to have appeared in La Gazzetta or Corriere dello Sport.

Francesco, as you’ve said, crazier things have happened. I personally hope the rumor is not true, as I’d like to see Sampdoria succeed with Cassano. Besides, given great luck and injuries free, they can come close to breaking the top 4 barrier and reach something great
