Catania Are Back!

By: Martha | April 19th, 2007

Who doesn't love an elephant? The labyrinthine machinations of the Italian court system (or the American one, for that matter) were well-beyond me before I got up this morning, but now I’m officially totally lost: Yet another regional civil court has handed down a decision on the Catania stadium, and from this weekend on — for the moment at least — their home games will be played at home, in front of home fans.

This, mind you, comes after the stadium was already reopened once by the courts, and then immediately reclosed by a mysterious crew called the “National Observers.” According to Football Italia, the court in question this time — the Catania TAR, which seems to be in a blood feud with the Lazio TAR, the court that’s try to enforce the initial decision and has sporting jurisdiction — has not only lifted the stadium ban, but will also refund ticket costs to the 82 season ticket holders who brought the lawsuit in the first place, claiming they’ve been denied access to the games they were promised when they invested in tickets.

Well, my head is spinning. Granted, this could be overturned by the Lazio TAR folk before the day is over, but still — what is this, five decisions on this one issue already? It’s madess!

This whole situation is odd and interesting at the same time. I wonder if we could use Italian rulings in these types of situations here in the States. Like, could a Cubs season ticket holder sue the team for the season being over by the end of April?

Muddia if you wait until mid-May, I’ll join your suit. We can sue the Cubs and the Cards — bring out people together for an important cause.

Remind me exactly why Poland and Ukraine won Euro 2012?

totally typical of the Italian judicial system… you should see what it’s like over something ’serious’ like a mafia trial!
