Muddia, yeah it seems unfair how the aggregate system works It used to be worse/different (maybe not worse some would argue). An away goal used to count as 2 goals. If this were the old format the aggregate score would be 2-2. IF the actual game at the Olimpico ended 2-2 on the pitch, Man-U would be up 4-2 in aggregate. They changed it at some point and I'm not sure exactly when? Anyone? I'm guessing a few years back. They changed it, obviously, to the current format, which I am sure everyone understands. If this were the old way, a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford would see extra time (a 1-1 draw would have Roma going on 4-3 in aggregate). If Roma scores, and I think they can, they will be in good shape. I still think Roma should get more credit than what they are being given, Man-U really couldn't handle them....

Yeah, not impressed with Roma's shots - and some of the worst came from that lovely young Daniele de Rossi! I also think that Roma need to train up a dead ball specialist whose name doesn't start with T and end with a O-T-T-I? There were chances, man, chances. I can't tell you how glad I am that Nemanja Vidic wasn't around, though. That man is scary.

But it was a good game, good to watch. And Roma is the only home side to have won a game in this leg, so I'm basking. It's clear Man U didn't really know what to do with them, so if they can keep up the surprises at Old Trafford, there's a bit of a chance.

it was a good game,
still, conceding one away goal with 1 man up is a really nasty thing, this could really liven-up ManU's spirit, Roma fans, let's just hope they get over-confident, although that might seem unlikely, since Sir Alex is always careful in his comments for CL.

Just finished watching the game. Roma looked so good in the first 20, and then after they got the goal, totally slowed up. I will say this, being relatively new to the sport and American, this whole "away" goals thing is total bull. Both sides play road games. Going on the road to hostile environments is part of sports. Say Roma really plays well, and dominates most of the game next week but concedes a late penalty and lose 1-0. They lose the tie? Somehow, that seems ridiculous to me.

Congrats Roma fans! It really was a good game dominated by Roma for the most part. The Roma attack was bit too fast for Scholes in my opinion, leading to his lazy challenges & red card. Roma could easily have had 2 more goals. They moved the ball well to the outsides and created space, as well as contorlled the middle of the pitch and dictated the pace. As for the Man-U goal, it was De Rossi I believe, who over comitted his challenge in the air and Rooney was smart enough to control with his chest and score a nice goal. Nice run by C-Ron who is a player that somtimes makes up for the man down on his own. The 2nd leg sets up to be a beauty. Roma can score (they will be without Perotta) so its not going to be so easy for Man-U at OT. Looking forward to it!! My favorite thing about the whole match was the stunned look on Sir AF's face on the sideline!

Even before Scholes got sent off for his umpteenth bookable offense, Roma were outclassing their more hyped opponents and showing their techical superiority. Glancing at the stats, there was an incredible discrepancy in shot opportunities favoring Roma, but then we all know they tried a few too many from distance. They just lacked that bit of ruthlessness, perhaps the one quality in which a team like Man Utd definitely has the edge.

Terrible shame Roma lost their concentration on that counterattack, as Man Utd didn't do anything to deserve a goal (though I agree they were more dangerous a man down when Roma slowed things up), but then Roma seem usually to be a team that will have their lapses. They'll have to get that away goal...

Jina, all I really know is that there was a fight between supporters at halftime, and the cops waded in and allegedly beat the hell out of some Man U supporters. And, based on this video (linked to by keebee in the comments on another post), we can take off the "alleged." Yikes.

Roma impressed me. They might be hurt by the away goal but I wouldn't be surprised if they score at Old Trafford. Man U's defense is like swiss cheese right now.
