Champions League: Half Way There (Fingers Crossed)
By: Martha | April 11th, 2007
I don’t want to say too much here and jinx anything, but Milan look good — so far. They’ve been solid if not spectacular, and the moves that create both goals were bright and classy (er, apart from that whole offside thing), just like Milan themselves have been of late.
Also: Horray for Seedorf! He’s long been one of the most consistent players on the team, but lately has been nothing more than Ancelotti’s “I want to bring on fresh legs now” sacrificial lamb mid-way through the second half. A goal and an assist — in addition to virtually flawless midfield play — better be enough to get him a full 90 today, dammit.
Given Milan’s collapse last week, however, you’d be crazy to feel even a little comfortable right now. Bayern are definitely in the game and already had one fantastic chance (how much Dida knew about that save I’m not sure, but it worked); after last week’s fightback, they’re going to be insanely fired up and confident coming out for the second half, even down by two goal.
Sigh. Prepare for a tense 45 minutes.

Geez, I left my TV for two minutes (literally, two minutes!) to check out the Liverpool game on the computer and I missed the Seedorf goal! Grrr. Looking good for Milan, though. I want them to win, but (forgive me) not hugely because it’s Willy Sagnol’s team. But I’d be okay with 2-1 or even 3-1.

Heh. How I love that Inzaghi is subbed for a mid/extra back. Sorry, Oliveira. You suck.

Shock of shocks: Seedorf off.

The commentary on espn gamecast has been classic for this game. Witness: “84 Minutes: Van Bommel must have had 10 shots in this match and his latest effort goes the way of his nine previous ones–wide.” Good stuff.

Muddia, this was my favorite commentary quote: “Hargreaves has the job of picking up Kaka. Wouldn’t want that job!”
Doubly funny because they pronounced Kaka with the accent on the first syllable.
Hey, made ME laugh.

I won’t say this out loud because it would show that I’m actually a 12-year-old at heart, but my favorite was this description of Gattuso and Van Bommel “Two hard men, coming together.” DIR. TY.

Like I said, CLASSIC.

Martha, I remember them saying that, but I TOTALLY missed the double entendre. How in the world did that happen? (And I don’t even try to pretend I’m not a twelve-year-old at heart.)
