Corini Going Back to Palermo; Zaccardo Wants Him to Stay

By: Martha | September 14th, 2007

young captain coriniNormally there’d be little interest in Torino’s trip to Palermo on Sunday (and I’ll admit that I might be the only one who cares, even now), but since the visit will mark the return of Eugenio Corini to the team he was a big part of bringing back to Serie A and which he captained for several years, it’s going to have a much higher than usual emotional content. Corini himself is displaying his usual class ahead of the match, saying all sort of sincere things about his time in Sicily, pledging his loyalty to Torino, and avoiding even mentioning the completely outrageous way Maurizio Zamparini screwed him over last June.

At Palermo, meanwhile, there’s a little quiet lamenting of the departure of Corini (AKA Palermo Bald Guy #1), particularly from former teammate Cristian Zaccardo, who misses him something fierce. According to Zaccardo: “We lack a charismatic player like Corini, one like him who knew how to lead the team and who was a real leader of the dressing room,” admitted the defender. Unfortunately today there isn’t this element at Palermo. In the squad we have many players and each one of us tries to be a leader.” Wow. Wonder how new captain Andrea Barzagli feels about that. And, Christ, imagine how good Palermo would be if they actually had a leader.

I was actually just reading something about this before. It makes me really sad because from what i remember he knew he was old and he didn’t expect to play all the time but we still fucked him off. :( It’ll be great to see him back in Palermo though.

with miccoli, amauri, and cavani up front, not too mention the ever-present possibility that zamparini, well, pulls a zamparini, I personally am always interested in them. rosina and recoba on the other side is always nice back-up plan on the 1 in a million chance that the aforementioned players and/or nutjob disappoint :).

why do all my comments have to be moderated? i must say some key words that tip off the computer to craziness, like “zamparini.” ironically, this message will probably be stopped by the bot catcher.

When God delivers his 100lb. bag of hundreds to my door step, all will be good. Half way there God.

Jamie, the spam catcher has certain people it hates — for some reason, you and Marco are at the top of the list. Maybe it knows something we don’t?

Totally agree about Palermo, they’re even more exciting to watch this year than they were last, which is saying something (and Zampa hasn’t even had his first fit yet).

Kayannie, at least Corini’s landed on his feet — he was Torino captain in the second game, which is pretty high praise for some old guy coming into a new team.
