Costacurta to QPR Bench?
By: Martha | September 14th, 2007
There have been a lot of small stories in the Italian media over the past few days about Milan legend Billy Costacurta and his wife using the international break for a trip to London. While normally this sort of thing wouldn’t be newsworthy (seriously, it wouldn’t), the fact that while there Costacurta was also having conversations with his homie Flavio Briatore — an F1 bigwig and serial dater of models who just so happens to have recently bought Championship side QPR — has quite understandably caught the attention of the press.
According to the latest reports, the two are doing a lot more than chatting: Briatore has met with Adriano Galliani and officially offered Costacurta a job as manager of his new toy (currently near the bottom of the Championship table). Whoa. About three months into his coaching career, and he’s already being seen as a managerial savior? Well, I suppose Roy Keane is doing it — who the hell needs experience when you’ve spent 20+ years on the pitch? Plus, Costacurta speaks fluent English, and has always been one of those “Oh, he’s got a manager’s mind” sort of players, so perhaps it’s not as odd as it sounds.
No matter what happens, though, any sort of move is probably several months off at this point — no specific terms have been discussed, and it’s believed that, even if he accepts the gig now, Costacurta wouldn’t take over until the new year.

Wow, so what’s the story behind Costacurta being fluent in English? Being fluent usually implies having lived in an English-speaking country or having a wife thereof.
