Crespo Has a Message for Chelsea

By: Martha | March 31st, 2007

With the scoring and the yelling. And that message is: “Ears are made for hearing.” Er, right then, Hernan. Thanks for that.

Apparently Crespo feels this aural function has until now been lost on one Roman Abramovich (Perhaps he thinks his ears are made for carrying money?), and he wants the Chelsea owner to just sit down and listen. Is that so much to ask? In a an interview after Inter’s training session yesterday, Crespo once again told the press of his desperation to stay with the club next year, and only slightly desperately said “if Abramovich listens a bit to me and a bit to Massimo Moratti, we can reach a good conclusion.”

By “good conclusion,” obviously, he means some sort of agreement — an outright sale or extended loan deal seem to be the options — that will allow him never go to back to London again. As you may recall, all Crespo really can do is beg, since his fate is entirely in Chelsea’s hands: He’s ostensibly on loan to Inter for two years, but can be recalled during the summer transfer window, and there’s not a damn thing he can do about it. Apart, that is, from begging. And from telling the press eager, hopeful things like “If they ask me to stay at Inter and finish my career here, I will sign tomorrow!”

Good luck with that, Hernan. Hopefully they won’t call you back just out of spite — it’s be sort of sad to watch Sheva and Drogba score from a seat on the bench, huh?

I don’t see how it would make any sense for Chelsea to recall him. Calling him back out of spite to play bench would be a waste of time and money all around. If he didn’t adapt to the Premiership, cut a deal and let him stay in Serie A where he’s playing well.

I hope they just let him stay. An unhappy Crespo probably won’t be a productive Crespo, beside the fact that I hate to see him beg.

It would be just…mean-spirited to make him come back. And then he’d be on the bench 75% of the time.
