Delicious Suazo Fallout Begins
By: Martha | June 19th, 2007
See? It’s only taken a matter of hours for the Milan clubs to start going at it — imagine where we’ll be a week from now, when they’re wrestling over Eto’o, or Ronaldinho or, God forbid, The Great Sheva!
According to Cagliari president Massimo Cellino, Inter chief Massimo Moratti failed to answer his phone for several days. So, he did what anyone else would do in that situation: Rang up Andriano Galliani, just to see what was up. Oh, and to ask if he, perchance, might need a striker. One thing led to another and, yadda yadda, Suazo signed with Milan.
Moratti, however, strenuously denies that Cellino ever tried to contact him, and furthermore claims the striker had already signed with Inter and was no longer Cagliari property. As a result, he really should have been sold to another club in the wee hours of this morning. Not that there was anything remotely shady about the deal — I know I conduct all the business I feel is most legit at about 1am. What? Don’t you?
For their part, Milan are not-so-subtley laying everything at Cellino’s feet. Said Galliani, “Cellino said that the negotiations with Inter were over and so we started and concluded a new negotiation.” This way, if it turns out the deal with Inter had, in fact, been signed, Milan’s only failing is being gullible; their worst offense will have been taking Cellino at his word, certainly not sneaking around trying to disrupt a deal between Cagliari and Inter. Smooth, Adriano. Very smooth.
Meanwhile, despite saying just yesterday that Samuel Eto’o was Milan’s primary summer target, Galliani is now admitting the Suazo signing makes the addition of the Cameroonian unlikely. While no Eto’o, Suazo is pretty fantastic in his own right, not to mention a whole lot cheaper than the Barca player — this sounds like a pretty good deal for Milan, though we’ll have to wait to see how they react if Eto’o ends up in an Inter shirt come August.
[And, just so we all have the proper historical context, La Gazzetta dello Sport have provided a handy roundup of all the occasions over the past few years on which one of the Milan teams signed a player who was assumed to have already signed elsewhere, among them: Dejan Stankovic, Marco Materazzi, and Manuel Rui Costa. Point being, this ain't nothing new.]

“If we close the deal for Suazo, it is highly unlikely that Eto’o will arrive this summer, and it will probably be the end of our buying.” That is not a good quote for Milan fans.

Perfect! What a great soap opera to start off the calciomercato. Inter getting screwed on picking up their 15th striker should not have any real impact on the club but damn, that’s funny.

As a Cagliari fan, Id prefer he stay in Sardinia but Id much rather see Suazo in Milan colors then Inter, but id also rather have 6.5 million and the total rights to Acquafresca then 10 million and no player. Cellino better spend some money on some talent or this is our last year in Serie A for awhile.

I love how Roma got screwed on this twice now. Who is at the wheel in the Eternal City here folks? I think I need to apply for the GM spot. I’ll be the Theo Epstein of the Serie A. Martha, who do you know over there?

So…has Suazo actually signed a contract with Milan? As in, pen to paper? I want to assume as much, since my understanding is teams will not officially announce a deal until the player signs the dotted line.
Regardless of how this turns out, Inter will be fine.

Stop rubbing it in, Muddia.
The only reason Rosella is still managing the team is because everybody, and I mean everybody, loves Franco Sensi.
And Theo is overrated. That’s coming from a Sox fan, too. Roma just needs a fucking clue. The city and club sell itself.

According to Moratti, Suazo has put pen to paper for Inter. Inter will be more than fine. Their striker options are awesome enough already and imagine by some chance a top form Adriano….. see ya later to everyone esle in the league. I still expect to see Inter pick up one big name (Young) striker. Tevez or Quags or someone. We’ll see.

…something tells me they might go for an Argentinian.

Moratti just made his knee-jerk move.
Chivu to Inter for Pizarro’s half (6m) + 12million euros.
I’m going to go find a bridge.

This definitely isn’t finished yet. This will drag on, but Moratti is really annoying me now. In the past I used to feel bad for the poor guy, he was constantly pumping large sums of money into a team that would never win anything and just looked like a senile old man who had nothing left to live for, but now the winning has gone to his head and he seriously needs to shut up.

while I am very happy about this news …. it says on the Milan website that Suazo has NOT signed yet
to quote “The agreement was completed in one night and all that it needs now is for David Suazo to sign and become a Milan player.”
