Dida Stays, Or: One Less Destination for Buffon
By: Martha | March 10th, 2007
Well, this is unexpected. Rather than ask for so much money that Milan wouldn’t meet his demands and let him run off for the greener pastures of Barcelona, Dida signed an extension today that will keep him in Milan until 2010. And there was much rejoicing, as his teammates reportedly greeted the news with wild applause. Aw. There’s no word yet on the value of the contract but, given the previous admissions by the club that Dida was demanding more than they were willing to pay, the amount must have been considerable.
In addition to the joy that comes from retaining a (usually) reliable keeper, this is good news for Milan fans also because it means the club won’t be forced to spend all summer trying to woo Buffon or Celtic’s Artur Boruc. Instead, they’ll be able to dedicate their time and money to feeding other entertaining rumors about, say, Brazilian strikers. Or Little Aeroplanes.
