Dida to Barca?

By: Martha | February 24th, 2007

Poor Dida.Milan have assumed for several months that they may go into the 2007-2008 season without Dida in goal. He seems to want more money and possibly a longer contract that they’re interested in giving him, so it’s long been evident that he could walk this summer. No one has mentioned, however, that he’d land anywhere as freaking awesome as Barca, which is what the Gazzetta dello Sport is telling us today. If you can get past the amazing translations Google has to offer (in case you were wondering, Dida is “WITHOUT MATTRESS”), it sounds as if an oral agreement may have been made for the Brazilian to head to the Nou Camp on a free after the season ends.

There’s no confirmation of a deal — just rumors in the Spanish press which, for various reasons (Among them “On this forehead all tace.” Google is almost Dadaist, sometimes.), strike the people at Gazzetta dello Sport as being plausible. According to their logic, Dida’s refusal to lower his salary demands and the collapse of negotiations with Milan left Dida with no choice but to begin discussions elsewhere, including away from Italy. His contract is up in June, and he clearly would like to have something lined up by then — it would sort of embarrassing for a world-class keeper to have to start collecting unemployment.

If this is true, Milan won’t spend much time crying about it, or begging the keeper to reconsider. Instead, they’ll just pick up the phone and call Buffon. Again.
