Fabio Cannavaro will finish his career in Dubai
By: Francesco | June 2nd, 2010
So I went through my daily routine this morning of waking up, turning on my computer, and immediately going through whatever calcio news has been reported for the day, and I came across something interesting. It said “UFFICIALE: F. Cannavaro firma con il Al-Alhi“. I looked to twice to make sure I was reading it right and it turns out I did. After no Italian clubs really showing an interest in the Nazionale captain, Fabio Cannavaro has signed a 2 year contract with UAE club Al-Alhi Dubai. He’ll probably be making a nice chunk of money as well, much more then he would have made signing with a Serie A club.
Here are Cannavaro’s words after the news became official:
“I’m very happy with the deal reached with Al Alhi. For some time I’ve thought about going to live in Dubai, a city that I love. Therefore this is a dream come true, going to play for a great team from this city”
Well so Cannavaro won’t go to the World Cup unemployed. His agent said contact was made around 20 days ago and the deal was pretty easy as Cannavaro was extremely interested. So no family reunion in Napoli and no nostalgic return to Parma for Cannavaro, but an experience abroad in the United Arab Emirates. Well one thing is for certain, we all saw Cannavaro decline over these last 4 years and we know that he is nowhere near the player he was at the 2006 World Cup. But in Dubai over the next two years, he’ll look like the 2006 Cannavaro in that league. (sorry if I offended any die hard UAE Football League fans)
I also saw that former Treviso, Siena, and Torino Brazilian midfielder Pinga plays in the UAE as well for Al-Wahda in Abu Dhabi. Him and Cannavaro can be friends.
