Friday News Roundup Before the International Frenzy Hits Fever Pitch

By: Martha | November 16th, 2007

Bringing the old school flava.•Bobo Vieri is either right on the verge of agreeing to stay with Fiorentina for one more year, or he’s not. Since the denial comes from the man himself — who says he prefers one-year contracts at this point in his life so he can quit if he’s just not feeling it anymore (that’s what she said) — it’s possible the renewal thing is a lie. Either that, or Bobo’s just being coy. Me, I prefer to believe the latter.

•And, wrapping up the personal section of this news roundup, Luis Figo got the staples out of his leg and is back at the Inter campus, doing physical therapy. Baby steps.

•Not, apparently, one to just let rumors fade quietly away, Rosella Sensi freaked out a little bit today about the stories of some Americans trying to get their dirty paws all over family’s club. Said the lady, “Roma is ours, nobody can touch it. … There will be trouble for anyone who tries to touch it.” Well. Alright, Rosella, you got it. Just … put that knife down, please.

•Since Peter Crouch is rotting away on the Liverpool bench, Rafa Benitez is willing to part with him this winter, albeit for a small fee. According to the Daily Mail, the club will ask £10 million for the striker, and Juventus — allegedly after the freak of nature since last winter — are reportedly among the frontrunners.

•The rumor mill has Cristiano Lucarelli on the move again, this time to join the Italian club in England’s second division, AKA QPR.

•Villarreal are going to let Juan Roman Riquelme go for €3 million? Seriously?! According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter and their giant pile of Argies are prepared to battle Barca (and, erm, Newcastle) for the midfielder’s services when the winter transfer window flies open.

Easily the most important part of that quote…

“The club will remain with the Sensi family. There will be trouble for anyone who tries to touch it. My father is still alive and continues to play an active role within the club.â€

Once he passes and a suitable period has passed, the For Sale sign will be slapped in front of the corporate offices ASAP.

How long has Rosella been managing things there, Chris? And what the hell will she do with herself if she’s not doing that?

I don’t know how useful Peter Crouch would be at Juventus, given the good form of Iaquinta and Trezeguet lately. The Bianconeri also have Palladino and Del Piero in that role, so I don’t think it’d be in Crouch’s best interest to go from one bench to another…

Tanning. Shopping. Doing whatever she does with Lega Calcio (she’s VP of something). She’s actually pretty good with the business aspect of things, but admittedly isn’t great with the football side of things, hence her henchmen (Conti, Prade, Totti, etc).
