Friday News Roundup: Will It Ever End in Catania?
By: Martha | April 20th, 2007
•After the latest overturning of Catania’s stadium ban caused quite understandable controversy (apart from inevitable FIGC issues, the court that made the decision apparently doesn’t have jurisdiction over sporting matters), the issue has been addressed by postponing the Catania-Ascoli match this weekend. Super. It will now be played May 2, but no one knows where.
•The Zambrotta-to-Milan rumor just won’t die. Today, the story is that despite Barca’s desire to keep him, if Milan offer the same ÂŁ7 million he cost the Spanish club last year, Zambro could be on his way back to Italy.
•And Calciopoli continues: The referees and assistants named as likely targets in the next wave of corruption lawsuits have been suspended by the Italian Referees Association. The decision affects a total of nine officials, two of whom are assistants, and there’s no word on how long it will last (though, with just a few weeks left in the season, it might not be a bad idea to just sit them all down until then).
•Meanwhile, down south, David Di Michele is pretending he can take not starting with professional aplomb, even going so far as to say “I must do more and accept that my teammates deserve their place ahead of me.” I wonder if the reporters laughed in his face.
•Danger, Milan: Wayne Rooney is an Ultimate Fighting Championship fan.
