Friday Odds and Ends
By: Martha | September 21st, 2007
Note: I’m traveling a-bloody-gain this weekend. Will check in when I can, and hopefully watching a match or four via the internets.
•More pablum from Adriano and Co.: Adriano was sad, drank a lot, is sorry, will be back, blah blah blah. Moratti will support Adriano until they pry him from his cold, dead hands. (Really, I’m not a bad person. I’m very sorry his dad died, and that his girlfriend dumped him and that all of it drove him to drink. I just wish the man would shut up about all of his issues and play for once.)
•Marco Materazzi has to go to court in Cagliari, because a German tourist is accusing him of smacking his son. (Matrix claims he just “admonished” the lad.) I’m sorry, but of everyone in Serie A, the one who seems least likely to smack a child is king dad Materazzi. Plus, he’s got about 14 of his own, why would he bother with a random kid who just happened by?
•La Gazzetta have posted a video clip they claim is of the very moment Ronaldo did whatever he did to his leg. Needless to say, he was screwing around , which is when the most infuriating injuries always happen.
•For those of you who like to play the “what might have been” game, Gigi Buffon has Shockingly!Revealed that he nearly joined Roma in 2001. *yawn*
•Carlo Ancelotti has once again voiced his support for Alberto Gilardino (who at this point probably would prefer it if everyone would just stop talking about him, so he can hide for a while) and also come out in support of Paolo Maldini’s recent criticism of Milan fans, further confirming that Maldini was acting a club mouthpiece when he made his statements, rather than speaking on his own.
•This is surely a lie, but it seems a Chinese businessman wants to buy Inter, and is offering €350 million for the club, with the assumption that he’d spent €150-or-so million in the transfer market next summer. You know, because what Inter really need is to spend more money.

Anybody else wondering how a Chines businessman got 350 million Euros in a communist state?
“From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” Guess his needs include an Italian football club.

Tina, in my WAG research I discovered he made a video in Italy fairly recently, though I think that picture’s from some sort of fashion show. In Milan, probably.
