Grading Each Club’s President: Part 1

By: Julian | May 1st, 2011

TuttoMercatoWeb did a report card for each club president in Serie A. Since not everyone speaks Italian, I thought it’d be interesting to translate and post it here. Each president is graded out of 10 and a short paragraph follows, explaining each grade. Some of these are rather expected- guess how Bari did!- but some are rather surprising.

Here’s part one, with the first ten clubs in Serie A by alphabetical order. Part 2 will be up tomorrow.

Bari: Vincenzo Matarrese. Grade: 4.5 A collapse of this kind, from one year to another, was not expected. He did little for the dream from last year to continue. There was too much confusion and mistakes were made in judging people. He bartered Perinetti to Siena to get something special and ultimately paid. It was over, and it’s right that he sells the club.

Bologna: Gianni Morandi. Grade: 10. From San Remo to All’Ara he doesn’t miss a blow. Obviously the grade is an individual opinion, but the choice to include him as president is a provocation for a good purpose. There was a corporate disaster throughout the season. The club would deserve a solid 3, and also the Mayor and President of the Province, who has not realized the bluff of Porcedda. Excellent season despite the ending. For the future, the lack of clarity could bring down this sand castle.

Brescia: Gino Corioni. Grade: 4.5 He cannot, every time, make the lift go up and down [Ie, the club bouncing between Serie A and B]. Then the team rests in Serie B and he’d cry because he says he want to go away. Brescia would deserve a new president and a new stadium. His experience should not allow him to commit certain errors that he males. The management of the technical side of things has almost directly influenced relegation.

Cagliari: Massimo Cellino. Grade: 7. He’s prejudice to whistling [in a good way]: he sells Matri and thanks to Juventus will construct a new stadium. He never surrenders to bargain prices, that dear shop of Sardinia. It’s a shame that he cannot manage to bring more people to the stadium. He was humanaly wrong with Marchetti and risked but in the end, was right with Agazzi. To change Bisoli with Donadoni was an affair but to confirm Donadoni for another year might be a risk.

Catania: Antonio Pulvirenti. Grade: 6.5. One expected more but in short, look at Samp, Bari, Lecce, and Brescia. For another year he has been successful. Giampaolo was a flop, Simeone at least brought a wave of competitive malice. For another year he saves himself and brings home important gains. For him to do calcio has become good business. The sports center that was built gives him half a point more in the grade.

Cesena: Igor Campedelli. Grade: 6.5. Whatever happens, he deserves a high mark, for what he’s done in the past and for what he’s doing in the present. With two peanuts he’d manage to save them. Good corporate governance, much heart and always head on with the more important and prestigious presidents. Cesena must owe him much, because he risked his own pocked. They deserve to stay in Serie A. Young but capable, as demonstrated in in the confirmation of Ficcadenti in the dark periods.

Chievo: Luca Campedelli. Grade: 7. Do calcio and business in a city where there was, as always, above all Hellas. With Sartori, it was like winning bingo. Also this year he saved the team and has demonstrated, with Pioli on the bench, that the force is the society. Di Carlo without Chievo had been lost at Samp, showing his gaps and inefficiencies.

Fiorentina: Della Valle Family. Grade: 5. What a disappointment! The squad woke up when its head was already under the umbrella. Miha was disappointed, saved only from his second in command Marcolin: more important that it can seem. Diego and Andrea decide if they want to continue to do calcio business in Firenze. If the response will be yes, then they must begin to give the city what it deserves. Spectacular fans! And also important decisions to be made: Corvino has done well in Firenze and a thank you must be said, but now he deserves another thank you, followed by a goodbye.

Genoa: Enrico Preziosi. Grade: 5. The other bluff of the year. All pointed to Genoa as the surprise of the campaign, but the only move that one can think of was to give a gift to Milan, with Boateng. First they discharged Gasperini without style and pointed to Ballardini with a team not suited to the capacity of the technical Emiliano. Also the financial level has not demonstrated the competence of years past. What do you want to be, Genoa?

Inter: Massimo Moratti. Grade: 5. After having won it all, a sabbatical is to be expected. He, however, committed the same mistakes he made before Calciopoli. He had to sell Maicon and Milito for 50 million Euro, a deal that would have kept Benitez if the alternative was only Leo and should not have paid so much (4.5 million Euros) for a baby like Coutinho. For this year (2011) he passes, but in July he cannot return to committing these errors like always.

A -4.5 wouldve been to generous for that hack pezzo di merda called Mataresse. Sell the club you old coot. The fans and citizens of Bari deserve so much more than a tightwad miser like you.

nevermind, my bad. still the paragraph doesnt make sense to me.

  • Considering you didn't read this one properly, that last sentence comes off as heavily ironic. Try reading at least the first paragraph of a post before trying to pick a fight.

I lol'd hard. Ever the gentleman Julian.

  • If people leave polite, constructive criticism then I have no problem with it. To post that you'll never read one of my posts again is fine as well, but to say that incredibly rudely and based off an opinion that I clearly state isn't mine is not tolerable.

A good assessment of Morrati bar one thing: he is angelo's son. For that reason we love him. He should just not be allowed to make decisions. I think Pulvirenti's rating was criminally low.
By the way, is Igor Campedelli related to Luca Campedelli?
