Hernan Hearts Jose

Crespo. N that other guy. In a wide-ranging interview with Sky Italia yesterday, Inter’s Hernan Crespo very wisely said something along the lines of “HELL YEAH!” when he was asked about the prospect of Jose Mourinho moving to Italy.

Still technically a Chelsea player, the Argentine obviously has some experience with The Special One and, despite his unhappiness during this time in London, doesn’t blame the gaffer for his problems. Quite the opposite, in fact. (Well sort of, anyway. He sadly didn’t say anything about wanting Mourinho at Inter, but I suppose admitting that sort of thing would probably be a bad idea.) Crespo wants Mourinho in Italy largely for his personality, and how fantastic his presence would be for both the league and the media. “Mourinho is a born character and it would be exciting to see him in Italy. The newspapers would always be full. He is never dull and has a great personality.” Word, Hernan.

In addition, though, Crespo claims to have great respect for The Special One as a coach and a person, which is high praise coming from a guy who, while successful in his year under the Portuguese, was never one of his favorites (at least not as far as I can remember). The way Crespo sees it, Mourinho’s presence in Serie A would raise the level of the coaching in the league, and perhaps mark a revival of Italy’s status as a destination for the best footballing minds in the world, something that has faded away over the past decade or so. “Once this was the first port of call for tacticians and players alike, but now that isn’t so much the case.”

SEE? This is what I’ve been telling you people! I had no idea Hernan was so wise.
