Holy Insanity, Or: Ranieri Moving Mountains
By: Martha | June 3rd, 2007
According to the Italian media (including the laughably untrustworthy Juve rumor mill Tuttosport), not only is Claudio Ranieri on the verge of signing with the Bianconeri, but he also will be bringing with him some reinforcements for the side’s return to Serie A, namely longtime Juventus target Frank Lampard and rumored new arrival Momo Sissoko. Whoa. Either things are already so slow that Italian sports reporters are making things up, or there are some really crazy stories floating around on the peninsula today. (Might have something to do with the coke in the air.)
The reports claim the only holdup in Ranieri’s deal with Juve (as was rumored last week) is the length of the contract, with Ranieri wanting a long-term deal and the club preferring just two years, with an option for a third. With regard to the two players, they’ve not reached any sinister, secret agreements with the Tinkerman, but both men worked with him at the past (Lampard at Chelsea and Sissoko during Ranieri’s short stay at Valencia) and are reportedly eager to rejoin their intense, weirdly jovial ex-gaffer.
And, at least according to those who desperately want this to happen, the arrival of Ranieri with the two stars in tow will persuade Gigi Buffon to stay around, and kickstart Juve’s inevitably rise to the title. (Ok, I made up that last bit, but you get the idea: Ranieri + Lampard + Sissoko = Mmm … good.)
