How Do You Say “Manchester City” in Italian?

In the hours between today’s first post and this one, Sven Goran Eriksson has set his Tractor Beam of Cash on yet another Serie A player. This time, the man is his sights is his first Aussie: Palermo’s Mark Bresciano, who manager Stefano Colantuono suggests hasn’t bought into his plan for the team, and is already on his way out of the club. Said Colantuono, “His sale is almost certain, but I am not worried. He is a good player, but I only want determined and motivated men who are eager to be part of this project.” Hmm. I’d love to know what happened with Bresciano at Palermo — I’ve never heard or seen anything about him having attitude problems before.
Eriksson, meanwhile, seems to be calmly making his way down the wishlist he made last season while he was sitting at home watching football on TV. (The list is called “Serie A Players I Will Buy If I Get Another Club Management Job And The New Owner Is Really, Really Rich.”) Thanks to his 10+ years in the league, he’s maintained a strong connection to Serie A, despite leaving Lazio for the England job more than five years ago, and I suppose in way all this poaching is a vote of confidence for the quality of the league. Right? Either that or the players in Serie A are horribly under-priced, and Sven’s the only one who knows it.
In other Man City news, Juve are at least pretending they’re going to resist the Call of Eriksson, denying reports of the impending £7 million sale of defender Giorgio Chiellini to the English club. Good luck with that Juve — given how things are going thus far, I don’t hold much hope for your ability to stay strong. (Plus, Ranieri doesn’t want the kid anyway, right? £7 million is £7 million.)
