If Fiorentina-Roma Isn’t on TV, I’m Blowing Something Up
By: Martha | March 15th, 2007
You’ve been warned, RAI. This game should be awesome: A fantastic match between two pretty awesome teams, in addition to a great test of Fiorentina’s chances to elbow their way into the top four. And yet, so far, it’s not on TV in the US. God dammit. Our only hope is that Sunday’s La Grande Giostra Dei Gol centerpiece game is currently listed as TBA, so they damn well get that announcing team to Florence and bring us this one — just seeing the goals via our friend the William Tell Overture is not going to be enough this time.
With good reason, the press has been full of eager build-up this week, and the Viola are sounding very confident indeed. They’re in great form, while Roma have been unimpressive on the road as of late, something that must be worrying even the unflappable Luciano Spalletti. Plus, the Fiorentina fans will be out in force for the match, what with the fact that Roma ended up taking their Champions Leagues spot when the Viola were caught up in Calciopli still sticking in their craw and all.
In addition, there’s the added personal battle between Luca Toni and Francesco Totti, who are neck-and-neck(ish) for the Serie A scoring title, something Totti is reportedly desperate to add to his list of accomplishments. (I find this troubling, because I have major issues with players who talk about personal recognition when they have games to win. Am I being too hard on the man?) At the moment, Totti has 18 goals, which puts him three up on Toni, last year’s goal king.
So, yeah, it’ll be freaking awesome. Bring it on, RAI. Bring it on!
[Psst. Just in case RAI totally let me down, anyone know of a semi-legal *cough* way to watch streaming video on a Mac? Everything I can find is all Windows, Windows, Windows.]

Roma is NEVER on TV, I swear. Gol is incapable of showing anything but Inter or AC, and FSC seems to be relegated to the bottom half teams. Until next year that is, now that FSC has outbid Gol for the rights to all of Serie A. Finally. The sound/picture quality on Gol is maddening.

Fiorentina vs Romai thought it was an afternoon game, but, um, okay?

Woo hoo! Thanks, Rose — that’s hot off the presses, because I checked before writing my post and it wasn’t up yet.
(And clearly you’ll need to do some more schedule-juggling — you’re strictly forbidden to miss a Palermo game.)

Carmen, FSC have a deal with three teams that allows them to show their homes games only, and nothing else from Serie A. The only team I can remember is Lazio, but the other two are small teams which traditionally struggle just to stay up. So it’s not as if they WANT to torture us, it’s just the (cheap, probably) deal they made that makes it that way.

I think the other FSC teams are Catania and Torino. Not sure about Torino though.
Martha, don’t get me wrong because I cannot live without my iPod but, MACs blow. Unless you are in graphic design because those are the only folks I know have to use them. If you do have a windows PC, there is a creepy little chinese sight called livefooty that streams many games.

Martha, this website has mostly PC streams, but usually has 1 mac stream/game as well. It’s broadcast from China 90% of the time. Not that that matters, since you don’t speak Italian anyways =P

Muddia Dome, I think you are right. But definitely good news that FSC will have all of Serie A next year.
Does DirecTV carry RAI? I get GolTV and FSC with the sports pack or whatever, but I doubt I can convince my wife to pay even more a month. :(

Carmen, I believe Direct TV does carry RAI. I have seen it advertised in Fra Noi (local Italian American monthly) here in Chicago and they specifically try to market it for the calcio coverage.

Man, Muddia — first the Cubs and now this! I fear our relationship is on the rocks. (:
FWIW, I was a long-time Mac user who switched to Windows for several years and then went back to Macs. So I’m not a total Mac nazi, i just like ‘em better.

Thanks, mele419, I’ll root around in livefooty and see if I can find a Mac stream. (And this is where I wish could throw in a snappy “A Chinese site? Why, that’s perfect! I may not speak Italian, but I’m all over Chinese.” But I can’t.)

Who want to lay odds on the Pretty Philippe Mexes getting injured, thereby bumping himself from the France team for the third time in a row?
