Inter Connected With Some Very Familiar Names
By: Martha | August 6th, 2007
Apparently this blog isn’t the only place the news has been a bit slow lately, because our old friend Corriere dello Sport decided to drag up the old Inter-want-Samir-Nasri-to-replace-Figo story today in order to fill some column space. According to the latest version of the story, the French Wunderkind (or, if you prefer, The Next Zizou) is an immediate target for Massimo Moratti who, if this report is true, was lying [insert gasp of shock here] last week when he said Inter were through with the transfer market.
The article claims Inter are prepared to offer €25 million for the phenom, this despite Olympique Marseille’s firm statement over the weekend that the boy is going nowhere. Even if Marseillais are just being coy and trying to raise the price on the 20-year-old, Inter would face a serious battle for his signature from Real Madrid who are also tracking the winger, albeit with an eye to a summer 2008 signing.
Luis Figo, meanwhile, is talking up another of his possible replacements: Porto star Ricardo Quaresma, a player who seems increasingly likely to leave Portugal this summer. Though the press are selling Figo’s words as an indication that Quaresma is a legit Inter target, in reality he’s just saying the kid is talent, which has been a common refrain lately — no less light than Marcello Lippi was on the front of yesterday’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, calling Quaresma the one player whose arrival could make the biggest difference to a Serie A side.
Of course, since the whole footballing world has been after Quaresma in the last few weeks — among many others, Fiorentina have been associated with his name a lot, and just today there are stories connecting him with Real — this another player for whom Inter would face a massive amount of competition. In this case, though, the presence of Old Man Figo might give the club an edge, since he could talk the awesomeness of Inter up to Quaresma, and then act as a sort of mentor for the lad, were he to make the move.

Nasri is a prodigious talent and I admire his stated desires (if this is actually what he thinks, and not pr-speak) to stay at OM for at least one more year in order to develop and prove himself.
He’s got a lot of expectations on him, and the fact that he’s widely expected to be the next Zidane cannot be very easy on any 20 year old. It would make sense to prove himself further in France and then move in a year or maybe even 2 to Spain or Italy.
However, with the amount of money that Real and Inter are discussing, this might not be what happens.

Not a chance of Inter nabbing Nasri. I distinctly remember a quote after he was asked about their interest last year where he looked less than enthused to say the least and just replied, “I’d like to play almost every day.” Which is an obvious shot to Moratti’s system of having 13.5 players for every position.
And I doubt even Moratti would be willing to outbid Real for him. It’s where he belongs. They know it. Everybody knows it.

Yeah, the thing about him wanting to play every day is in one of those previous posts I linked, I agreed then (and still do) that it won’t happen at Inter, at least not right away. Would he play every day at Real, though?

He’d play more than at Inter, that’s for sure. Especially considering the relative youth movement they’re currently going through.
I don’t think he’ll ever move to Inter though. He needs to be at Real. It’s the only way. I firmly believe he will be the best player in the world within 4 years. I’m just flatout astounded every time I watch him play. He creates things that just aren’t there.

If you’re actually good, playing regularly at Inter isn’t as difficult as some make it out to be. Mancini, in particular, is quite partial to giving new arrivals plenty of early looks, even if it may not last forever (that’s where being ‘good’ comes in handy).
Also remember that Inter’s attacking midfield situation is different from other positions, since Figo is liable to break down any day now (sorry Martha!) and Jimenez is only on a loan.
btw, I thought I’d seen somewhere that these latest Nasri rumors were actually referring to a possible January move? I guess they’re assuming Marseille are eliminated in the Champions League before this would be feasible.
Regardless, I don’t see Nasri to Inter because I’m just not that lucky.

Sigh. I can take it, RT. I know he’s old and barely holding together.
The Nasri rumors are confusing. Real seem to be definitely talking about next summer and, until today, so were Inter. It’s hard to know if this new story is sure indication of an immediate interest (which is how the press are pushing it) or a re-working of the old story, in which case it’s noting urgent.
