Inter Roll to Third Consecutive Coppa Final, Or: Woo Hoo, Cruz is Back!

By: Martha | February 2nd, 2007

Cruz and our friend the whiner.Yeah, yeah: So, Inter drew with Sampdoria yesterday (their first non-win in a million years, though since it wasn’t in league it doesn’t affect The Streak) and will face Roma in the two-legged final, starting in April. Given the 3-0 lead with which Inter entered the game, however, there was very little suspense regarding the result, and any celebrating was probably done last week, albeit quietly. What was really important about this game was that Julio Cruz played his first match in two months, and not only made it through the full 90 minutes unscathed, but also was a consistent threat to the Samp goal. Hooray!

Granted, Inter haven’t exactly been struggling without him, but Cruz’s is a great, classy presence up front. Plus, he strikes me as someone who very effectively sets off the ambitious frenzy of Ibra, the waterbug-like running of Crespo, and the lumbering work of Adriano — Mancini will surely be thrilled to have him back. (And, as an added bonus he keeps his mouth shut when he’s not playing. Unlike someone else we know and love.)
