Inter to World: We Didn’t do Nothing!
By: Martha | March 8th, 2007
Though only fairly measured statements of general condemnation came out of the Inter camp after the debacle in Valencia Tuesday night, since then the level of anger has gone through the roof over at the San Siro, and there has been nothing “measured” about any of the recent remarks.
Most importantly, Inter’s Powers that Be want us all to know that they are the victims here! Granted, three of their players fought tooth and nail to get into the Valencia locker room and tear David Navarro limb-from-limb, but since he threw the first punch, nothing that came later really matters. In addition to posting the above photo on their website, the club also issued a rather forceful, indignant official statement about the brawl which reads, in part:
“… F.C. Internazionale cannot underestimate or forget the fact that it was the victim of an absolutely serious situation, which arose from the physical aggression towards one of its players, who sustained a broken nose after being provoked. Any reaction that occurred was consequent to this unjustifiable episode … What happened should have been prevented beforehand.”
Basically, what Inter are saying here — albeit in very formal language — is “But Moooooom! He started it! It’s not my fault!”
Oh and also? If anyone tries to punish them, they’re totally going to sue: “For this reason, and certain that the exact evaluation of the facts that saw F.C. Internazionale become a victim of provocations and assaults will not have escaped the attention of UEFA, the club announces that it will assert its rights in all relevant courts, and with all the resources at its disposal.” In other words, UEFA, fear the Moratti.

Where was Crespo in all of this? Did he stand and watch?

You know, Nelly, I can’t recall seeing him in any of the vidoes. I wonder if he was minding his own business over in the corner, or something. Anyone?
