Inter v Cagliari: Yes, That’s a European Record

By: Martha | February 17th, 2007

Zanetti, kicking ass.For the second week in a row, Inter were nothing more than functional, doing enough to win but rarely impressing. That said, however, it’s hard to throw stones at a team that just set a European record for consecutive wins with its sixteenth straight, particularly since they did it while resting a lot of regulars in anticipation of next week’s Champions League match. (You could tell the lineup wasn’t the usual because Figo was playing. Sigh.)

Scattered thoughts during what was really a fairly boring game:

•Figo!

•Ah, so Davide Biondini plays for Cagliari now! All this time I’d been thinking he was just really, really out of favor at Reggina.

•Samuel is going to break someone. If he’s always this clumsy, no wonder Inter are trying to package him in a summer deal.

•Suazo is really, really, really, really fast. And strong. It’s too bad he has no help whatsoever.

•Did Figo get a haircut? I think he got a haircut.

•I wonder why I used to hate Cambiasso. He’s really grown on me — there’s something very soothing about his reliability.

•Stankovic never, ever whines, he just seethes and shoots death-rays out of his eyes. Jesus. Why did I never notice before how close he always is to just ripping someone in half? And how wrong, exactly, is it to find that hot?

•Oooh Samuel strikes again. I think they keep him around to make Matrix look more graceful.

•Ibra is so good he’s impossible to resist. I can’t even pretend to dislike him anymore.

•Whoa. How did Adriano suddenly lose all of his confidence and creativity again? Figures crossed this is an aberration — if I can’t take that drama again, there’s no way he can.

•Stankovic just actually pulled someone’s hair. If there’s not a punching bag somewhere near the changing room, he needs to be given a wide berth after the game.

•Does Zanetti kiss everyone as they come off the pitch or just Cambiasso? Maybe it’s an Argentine thing. Crespo needs love, too.

WOO HOO! I’m lovin’ it, 16 in a row and counting! Quite the run! They haven’t been scored on in something like 550 mins in all competitons combined. 14 points clear, Coppa Finals but not for a few months, they can now put all their efforts into Champions League, which I am very excited about this week!!

Not the most convincing of wins by Inter this week, but their mediocracy can be as good as anyone’s best. Being an Inter fan I am noticing that I have become spoiled this year (finally). I was actually getting pissed off that 10 mins had gone by and they hadn’t scored yet. Then a minute later IBRA put through one hell of a cross that was finished by Burdisso, beauty goal! Suazo is one hell of a player too, so fast with the ball. One play he completely undressed Cambiasso and had a good go at the net, luckily Julio Cesar made a very nice save on the shot. He could easily be playing with any big club. I am not sure if it is he that wants to stay with Cagliari or of they just won’t let him go. And to follow up on the Cambiasso comment. He is one of my favorite players on the team. Skilled, smart and reliable!
