Inter v Lazio: Thank Goodness for Crespo
By: Martha | May 13th, 2007
For those of you keeping track, Hernan Crespo has five goals in Inter’s last two games; the rest of his team has one. Well. It’s a good thing he’s around. Think Moratti is on the phone with Abramovich right now, desperately trying to convince him to let the Argentine stay in Milan? Because, damn — the boy is certainly doing his level best to show his worth, isn’t he? It’s amazing how totally lacking in sharpness Inter can be and still score four goals against a great defensive team and pull out a win, largely by letting Crespo do his thing.
The first half was awesome — Inter didn’t bother to defend at all for about ten minutes, and by the time they woke up Lazio were deservedly up 2-0. Inter, meanwhile, were falling down, not tracking back, and giving the ball away regularly, feeding right into Lazio’s eager counter-attack. The entire midfield was a bit of a mess, with returnee Patrick Vieira in particular looking a lot like a guy who hadn’t played much lately (funny, that). Eventually, though, both he and Inter (sort of) woke up, and Crespo was there to bundle the ball into the goal, as usual.
Apart from the appearance of Figo (Hurrah!), the second half was disappointingly calm. Until, that is, Lazio decided to melt down about Crespo’s third goal, which wasn’t even offside, and therefore definitely NOT worth Sebastiano Siviglia getting sent off over. I’m not sure an “Erm … sorry, lads” will make anyone feel better about the loss, but it’s the least he owes his team, since Matrix (Who else?) scored the winner shortly after Siviglia left. The fool. (Of course, since Empoli also lost and officially handed Lazio third place despite their loss, forgiveness will probably come easier than it would have otherwise.)
Also, this is neither here not there, but Behrami spilled bleach on his hair again. Sigh. Could someone please tell him frosted stripes and tips don’t work for anyone?

Nice post Martha.
My only comment is that the guy in the picture is not Hernan “Valdanito” Crespo.
Looks more like Materazzi to me…

Thanks for reading, Albo! (And it’s most definitely Materazzi — not a lot of pictures to choose from right after the game and, since he scored and all, I figured Matrix was worthy.)
