Inter v Roma: Well That Blows
By: Martha | April 18th, 2007
I know the penalty was a dodgy one and all, but for Inter to lose not only the game but also their unbeaten run on a badly deflected (and yes, that was Figo whose shoulder it went off — thanks for noticing) free kick seems beyond cruel. Even with the late third goal added on to make it look less close, that was brutal.
The game itself wasn’t particularly impressive as a whole — both keepers made some fantastic saves, and each team had good individual chances, but neither ever put together a consistent attacking flow. The first half belonged to Roma who, while not dominant, had the majority of early chances and took a deserve lead into halftime thanks to Perrotta’s late goal. In the second, though, things were very much under Inter’s control, and there was a brief period where a second goal seemed nearly inevitable. During that period Roma’s attackers mostly vanished but, after they weathered that storm, the game slowed way down and, though Inter seemed to maintain the majority of possession, Roma never looks particularly threatened.
And full credit to Roma for their performance — they defended very well, as they general do outside of Manchester, and played with impressive poise, even when the game started to melt down a bit early in the second half. It’s too bad the gap at the top is so big, or this game would have gone a long way towards livening up the Scudetto race.

Damn.
I just posted an entry about that, only to see you’ve beaten me to it. And your entry looks spiffier too. :D
I’m going to pretend that the entire match didn’t happen. Lalalalala Inter is still unbeaten lalalalalala.
And for Roma… I’ve been obsessed with Taddei like whoa lately (i am creepy like that, yes). What happened to his face? I mean, I know he’s been involved in a car accident a while ago, but I don’t think his eh… uniqueness stems from that. Maybe he was simply born unfortunate looking?
Yes, yes you’re probably thinking “The streak is well and truly over and you’re bugging me with Taddei for godknowswhatreason you obnoxious little brat”. Well, shucks. I’ve got to take my mind off of it somehow. :P

DAMN IT! Not because they loosed but I missed it! I was antisipating this game for a while, sense their last gam was canceled. Oh well. I’m still proud of Roma though, but the reason why I missed it was cuz we usually have the games on the week ends soooo, yeh know. *sigh*
Oh and Pasha, this is football we’re talking about, this isn’t Americas next top model.

Well, I’m choosing to believe that Inter is like a particularly stubborn pickle jar — Roma may have opened it, but Palermo were the ones to loosen the cap!
Oh gosh, did I actually just make that metaphor? Clearly I’m a Palermo fan fed on a steady diet of Zamparini quotes. Wow.

Martha - I just watched the highlights and “dodgy” doesn’t even do that penalty justice. That was laughable. I’m not even sure that Doni so much as touched Adriano.
Yes, I’d agree that Totti’s free kick goal was unlucky, but he struck it with such pace that there was nothing Cesar could have done once it took the deflection.
Still, not a bad run this year for Inter - they’ll wrap up the Scudetto soon enough. It would have been nice for Interistas to have the undefeated season to fall back on when the inevitable doubting of winning the scudetto this year arises due to the absence of the old lady of Torino.
