Juve Are Cursed (But Also Blessed with at Least One Miracle)
By: Martha | September 19th, 2007
Negatives have been crashing down on Juve lately, particularly since last Saturday. First, they fell apart against Udinese and lost their perfect record. Boo. And, in the process of being beaten, they lost Mauro Camoranesi (not only one of their best players this season, but also one of their chief whiners) for between six and eight weeks thanks to a fairly serious thigh problem. Then, after the match? Antonio Nocerino was HIT BY A CAR. Yes, seriously. He was innocently leaving Mamma Mia (sadly, that’s the name of a restaurant, he wasn’t taking in a performance of the ABBA show) when a car smashed into him and knocked him down, resulting in the lad spending the night in the hospital. Oh, and don’t forget that they’re without Jonathan Zebina for three more games, thanks to the Slapping Incident.
Now, while they still lost to Udine, Camoranesi and Zebina are still out and, as an added bonus, Alex Del Piero is busy making an ass of himself, at least Nocerino is already back in training, having experienced a miraculous recovery. Nothing is broken, the bruises will heal, the terror has passed (Aw. Poor boy.), and the little matter of a concussion will clear up sooner or later — and it’s all down to the hand of God, apparently. Which is nice, though it seems He wants to make sure Juve are as undermanned as possible when they face Roma this weekend, since there’s reportedly no way Nocerino will play in the match.

I’m not allowed to love Juventus players but I heart Antonio Nocerino with all my Napoletano might. He scores his first professional goal at home (he was on loan to Piacenza at the time) against Napoli and refuses to celebrate. He hustles like nobody’s business. He’s tough as freaking nails and he bounces back from a frightful car accident. If we can only find a way to get him out of those black and white stripes and into Napoli azzurri he’d be legendary.

He does work his ass off, no doubt. I adore players like that, it’s just a pity about that Juve thing.
