Coppa, Tiago & Make Up Lovin’
By: chris | April 16th, 2008
Coppa Stuffs
Roma 1 - Catania 0
Inter 0 - Lazio 0
Having watched the Roma - Catania match and simply judging by the scoreline of the Inter - Lazio game I’ve come to one conclusion: meh. Coppa first legs have never done much for me beforehand (afterwards can be a different story), and this was no exception. One goal scored in total isn’t ideal when you’re looking forward to second rate defenses and massive goal-scoring explosions*. Unfortunately, both Roma and Catania looked like they were performing a pregame walkthrough. The Inter - Lazio highlights provided some pretty good chances - appearing more exciting than the other semi - and a nice save from Grandpa Ballotta, but not a 12 goal explosion.
They’ll do it all again in a few weeks. We want some goals, dammit.
* - One look at the bracket and you’ll see what I mean.
Juventus 3 - Parma 0
(This was the makeup game from a few weeks back due to the death of the Parma fan.)
Juve managed to seal up a Champions League spot next year with a victory over Parma, who failed to use that game in hand to their advantage and move a bit away from the zone. The opening and closing goals were far from typical, with Tiago scoring the luckiest goal of his life, so just have a look-see:
Who Needs Some Love?
Walter Novellino, that’s who. How cruel was this?
“I was in the bank when they called me. I haven’t spoken to anyone yet and I don’t want to make any comment. I don’t need to say anything now, it’s a horrible moment but I don’t want to talk about it.”
Guy gets canned trying to cash his paycheck. Alright, it’s not terrible, but shouldn’t they do the cannings in person? That’s like breaking up with someone via text message or email….uncool.
Make Up Lovin’
So what’s the “in” thing to do in Serie A? Hire back the guy who was the coach before the guy you just fired. Duh. So as soon as Gianni De Biasi heard Cairo had broken up with his latest flame, GDB dumped his new girl Levante and ran straight into Urbano’s arms in Torino. Hooray for comfortable relationships.
Same deal as last year when GDB was brought in during February: avoid relegation. As long as Gianni can figure out how in the hell to get this team to score some damn goals, they should stay afloat. Easier said than done though; they have two in their last half dozen games….and those two came in the same game. Didn’t realize “impotence” translates to “Torino” in Italian.

Some hilarity from Inter: Massimo Moratti is prepared to offer Adriano in exchange for Benzema.
What a generous guy. Truly.

Jesus, Inara, that’s a good deal coming from Massimo.
You’re lucky he didn’t request Benzema and Ben Arfa in return for Crespo and half of half of Nicholas Burdisso. It’s a well known fact simply touching an Inter kit makes your value shoot up 12,000% in the eyes of MM.

I’m sure it’s been killing you not to know for sure, so I’m here to confirm the Inter-Lazio match was desperately boring, apart from the facts that a)Figo broke himself somehow, and b)Luca Siligardi played. You can sleep soundly now.

I think palladino should have more exposure… he can be a difference

Palladino is huge and we need all of the strikers, but if Amauri comes, I don’t expect Iaquinta/Palladino both to stay.

So I know Chris is busy, but I think this is the perfect thing to discuss here:
Berlusconi wants ’super’ League.
http://www.daily-calcio.com/index.php?option=news&task=viewarticle&sid=15363He thinks that the Serie A should be smaller so that the big, expensive clubs wont have to play in the provinces were even the tiny little stadiums dont sell out.
He says “Speaking to Radio Radio, Il Cavaliere explained that teams with fewer spectators should have their own Division, separate from those with large grounds and huge fan bases.”
No offense to any Italians who voted for his party, but what a colossal dick!
That is one of the joys of Football - that Napoli beats Inter, that Livorno holds Roma, that there are giant killers around every corner.
In any event, I figured that if I was wrong with my opinion, someone here would tell me.

napoli is not a small team… they have one of the biggest fan bases in italy… they would most definately be in the top division…

KJ you are like the OFFSIDE coroner, you go from site to site proclaiming them dead? First Inter now Italy…

Despite the fan base, K, Berlusconi does not consider Naples to be a club big enough for his Super League. Not to mention, I think Naples may be a wee bit too … er… southern for his and the Lega Nord’s taste.
Personally, it is one of my favorite cities, but then, I am not a racist/classist fuck like some Prime Ministers (and mayors? Rome, I am looking at you!) I can name.
