Stop Press: Pavel’s Back, and He’s Plenty Bitter
By: Martha | January 19th, 2007
Hey everybody, guess what! Pavel Nedved’s five-game suspension — initiated, you might recall, but an evil, Juve-hating referee named Stefano Farina — is finally over, and he’ll be back in the team against Bari tomorrow. All together now: Yay.
Well, at least Didier Deschamps is excited. He’s like a little girl with a new pony, crowing to the press that having the Czech back is like signing a great new player who will totally transform the team on the pitch. Uh huh. If by “transform” he means “add a lot of diving and flowing locks.” (And yes, I’m bitter. There are things about Nedved that I loved, but his whining and petulance have pretty much made them all irrelevant. Now he just pisses me off.)
Speaking of whining, for his part Nedved is happy to be back, but is nursing a rather massive grudge against the referee who had the nerve to show him a red card: “I still believe that the ban was unfair, but now I want to put this behind me. In any case, I am not interested in making peace with Farina.” Because, as you surely can understand, anyone who speaks against Pavel should spend eternity chained to stone with his liver being eaten by birds of prey.
And now, if you will, please join me in a quick prayer that he’s sent off again tomorrow. Thank you. And amen.

Think that’s the same Stefano Farina who makes some quite largely available, and quite decent, piemontese reds for American consumption?
